I don't doubt any of that. I'm questioning what percentage of the Magic playing population actually knows (and is influenced by) this. Does the average FNM guy know (or care) about who Jace is? I have a hard time believing that is true anymore than the average WOW player knows the history...

Are you sure about that? I think Jace sells sets because pretty much every version of that guy is broken. Oh, and blue is a really popular color in Magic (large in part because it has traditionally been the best color in Magic). Again, I'm old and clearly out of touch with today's...

    General Modern Masters 2015

Maybe I'm greatly underestimating how much the Magic community as a whole gives a shit about what the creative team writes about, but I have a feeling that 95% (or more) of the player base has no idea that Alesha is trans. Myself included until Grillo just posted it. I'd also wager a guess...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Lucre beat me to the punch. It's wonderful with miracles. I really need to wipe the board for stupidly cheap. Mystical Tutor Terminus.

Yup. That's a good one. Gelectrode is my favorite, followed by Goblin Sharpshooter. Sparkmage would be the next choice for me.

Card/Deck Three Colour Cards in Cube

Zur is kinda slow. If it fetched an enchantment when he came into play and when he attacked, we'd be in business. As is though, it's just a good card not amazing. IMO not worth the three color restriction. I've played Zur before in a casual deck. It's a fun card and if your opponent can't...

    FlowerSunRain's Cube

Well, with Wort you can recur Warren Weirding. While it might sound pedestrian, being able to flip your goblin deck from aggro to aggro-control with fetchable pieces is pretty sweet. I've never tried tribal goblins in cube though, so it might not be apples to apples from a power level...

    FlowerSunRain's Cube

How's the goblin sub theme going? Two cards I didn't see you consider which I think are both very good in any kind of goblin theme (though maybe not strong enough outside it): Warren Weirding (Basically Chainer's Edict without flashback or token maker on your own dudes - very flexible card...

Sweet. They threw the Portal art on the Wildfire. That's my favorite. I'm actually really excited to get a modern frame Shadowmage Infiltrator. Love the new artwork too.

    General Fight Club

Yeah. It's too bad. I love me some tribal flavor but it's just so hard to do it well in cube. Every time I try and push it too far with things like Elvish Archdruid, et al. I regret it. These cards underperform or go undrafted entirely. I'm convinced at this point that 90% of tribal is...

Article Learning From Pauper – Rethinking Archetype Design

I'm with Chris on this. The Johnny side in me loves the idea of combo. And sometimes I get this idea in my head that I can make a non-poisonous fun variant in cube and it will work. But reality is guys don't enjoy those games very much because they often are not interactive. You never want to...

Nice. Every time I think I've seen every card on gatherer, someone posts something I've never seen. That's a really powerful effect for pretty cheap. Seems like you could make that work in a token deck. Ophiomancer would be like best friends with that dude.

I think the only real incentive card is voidmage prodigy. You need pretty heavy blue for that, plus it's kinda slow. I don't know. I had a casual wizards deck that I loved playing so wouldn't mind representing it in cube. An excuse to break out my foil teferi, Mage of zhalfir. This could work...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I've run a lot of reanimator flavors. It's a favorite over here. There are several knobs you can turn on this. Cheap reanimate effects like exhume, even reanimate can work (and not be OP) if the pool of fatties is kept in check and you run quality removal. There's a big difference between...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I'm oversimplifying of course. In your graveyard cube, exhume is probably not broken at all since both players will often get something back. It's the turn 2 Griselbrand that becomes a problem. And I love those two spells you listed. Dread Return in particular. Wonderful synergy in that card.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

There's nothing low powered about Exhume if you have Entomb in your cube. In fact, it's often better than reanimate since you don't lose life. Low powered reanimator to me means no reanimate spells under 3/4cc. My 2 cents.

    General CBS

What I like about instants is that I get to make a decision that is not black and white. Do I use it now on my turn when you are tapped out (where its unlikely that I'm going to get surprised by something)? Or do I hold it and see what you do on your turn and maybe have to cast it when you...

    Card/Deck Supporting Storm

I tested a URG version with lots of ramp and card draw. But the direction I took it was too narrow (Dream Halls / Mind's Desire / Memory Jar), super ramp was there to help the turn you "go off" and as a backup plan (drop something nasty) should the storm pieces just not come up. When it works...

    General CBS

I don't know honestly. I feel like instants add valuable decision points in the game. Options are good. I want more options because it gives players opportunities to outplay each other as opposed to having the game dictated by the draw. Not all removal is good though. Like the "free"...

    Card/Deck Supporting Storm

Gotcha. More combo than true storm, but a similar shell (focusing on making lots of mana in this case). That's cool actually. Part of why it works so well there is the breaking of singleton on key cards (stating the obvious here - but calling it out because I originally tried to avoid that...
