General Jitte and assorted GRBS, P1P1, etc.

Jitte too slow? How is that even possible. That card is ridiculous. I know my cube is slower than most, but Jitte is actually on the verge of getting cut for being GRBS. It's broken to pieces.

    General CBS

And years ago I would have respected that and not used proxies. But Wizards crossed a line for me when they went and created the mythic rarity for no reason and essentially manufactured a whole new price point for cards, making the high end game even less accessible to people. I'll buy...

Your deck looks pretty good to me from the play sequence you gave. Denial decks can leave a bad taste in people's mouths from my experience - no one likes to feel like they had no control over the outcome of the game. Thankfully, there really isn't enough quality land destruction to really...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Coiling Oracle is good. It's ability is better than drawing a card. And he's an elf. What's not to like? He's a better (albeit harder to cast) Elvish Visionary (a card I run). I'd run Coiling Oracle too if I had room, even with the cost (something I feel like green can easily navigate anyway).

    Card/Deck Counterspells

I tried Spell Pierce and I don't like it for the reason you stated. It's great value when it works. But too often it's just useless.

Sets What cards from Theros are you playing?

I agree with this. I like the design of the gods in general. It's hard to turn them on but they are even harder to remove, so that becomes a mini game in and of itself. I don't know if they will stick around long term, but I'm a fan right now.

    Card/Deck Counterspells

It certainly is within black's realm of power. And it might even be more "black" than "white". But Wrath seems very white to me and I like to keep that in that color. Nostalgia I guess. Of all the color shifted stuff though, Damnation was the closest to getting a pass for the reasons you state.

    Card/Deck Counterspells

Guys almost always tap out to play stuff. They get excited about being able to drop whatever nasty thing has been sitting in their hand and they often forget not all counters are created equal. So force spike is rarely dead until late in the game. It's just a really good card in a lot of...

    Card/Deck Vamps

I'm always leery of trying to include true tribal themes in cube. Because generally those tribal cards suck without the tribe. So I limit them to just the ones that are playable on their own and if guys end up with an all elf deck for example, sweet. I will even run an elf over another...

Article ChannelFireball: Ghost of Cubing Future

Great article and discussion. My 2 cents... To aggro or not to aggro... This seems to be a pretty consistent thing that I read everywhere. It's a real hot button for most people. The spikier players really push aggro due to the inherent balance it brings to "dragony" type cubes (and I could go...

General 'walkers and "everything costs 4"

If Vess is left to her own devices for three turns, she auto-wins the game in any deck that put any effort into supporting her. Her ultimate is significantly better than Living Death (a card I've never lost a game after resolving). I'd say she's a tad bit better than One With Nothing. That...

If you guys ran two walkers per color, what would they be?

    RPGs; D&D and descendants

Soap box is out... I hate D&D 4.0 with a passion (sorry to the supporters). IMO, it's everything wrong with RPG design and MMO's all rolled into one. Combat was over-emphasized and skills were almost completely made obsolete. It's an abomination on an epic scale. I'm a very old school...

General 'walkers and "everything costs 4"

If I ran walkers and I were to only run one blue walker, it would probably be Tamiyo. Cool card.

General 'walkers and "everything costs 4"

Changling.... you totally should make a D&D thread. I'd really be interested in what you are playing specifically and how you are handling some of the escalating HP problems prevalent in every version of that game I've ever played (original AD&D all the way through 4.0 - which sucks donkey...

General 'walkers and "everything costs 4"

It is and always has been my least favorite part of the game. DM: "The ogre is running away. Do you want to shoot an arrow at him?" Me: "Why? Arrows do D8 damage and he probably has more hit points left than that. So it's pointless." I much prefer more realistic game systems...

Don't get me started on how stupid the AC/HP system is in D&D.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

It's 6 mana for "target creature gets -2/-2". If it lives that long (and it's ripe for lot's of tempo loss against someone waiting for you to pump 4 mana into it). I'm not a fan, but clearly against a removal light deck, this card will destroy people if left alone.

General Life Gain as a Thing

I've been on the fence about the black god honestly. I like mono black, so it appeals to me from that angle, but I think devotion is really hard to hit (in cube) and therefore the non-creature parts of the card need to be worth it IMO. Shutting down life gain (something black wants) and paying...

General Life Gain as a Thing

Duress is certainly cuttable. Inquisition, Thoughtseize and Cabal Therapy are all better and three of those is probably enough.
