To be fair, this is super easy, because you can just count the number of cards in the pile and subtract 1, because the first creature always enters normally (i.e. unmutated).

This is why I fear the new trilands might be too good at fixing. Fetch + shocks works very well in my cube, because I want to support three color decks, but if you can also fetch trilands, it might mean it becomes too easy to go over the top and just play 4c or 5c all the time.

I think that if I'm going to include them, I'm going to double up on them and replace all of the Alara trilands. They're simply superior in every way. I'm already running customs, so I'ld definitely be willing to make allied versions of these.

Yesterday I was like: these trilands are perfect for my 3-color cube! This morning I'm like, won't that lead to too many 4- or 5-color good stuff in combination with the fetches in my environment, instead of more 3 color decks?

To be fair, the Abzan Commander deck that was spoiled early in the season was fake. It had an ultimatum in there, probably because the person who made the foil saw the other spoiler that predicted 5 wedge ultimatums, but it was definitely the wrong ultimatum. As if GW didn't have enough solid three drops! I'm glad I cut that color combination from my cube! :P This is a combat trick I can get behind! Pumps by two, protects two targets from a Wrath or combat damage. There's definitely some blowout potential here!

Well, you get to choose where the mutated creature goes, just don't put the morph on top. And then you can unmorph it in the middle of combat :)

You can always run the companions with the caveat that their companion ability can't be used.

Mutate reads like auras and is probably quite bad in most cases. There have been successful auras in the past, but they are either really powerful, or have some way to counteract the innate card disadvantage of having an enchanted creature destroyed. For a second today, MaRo's article said only...

Different cards appeal to different people, I guess :) Really, no hard feelings. It's clear we evaluate this card's merits differently though.
