    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Thanks for the help Chris! I'll be testing this when I get around to cubing again:

Yeah. That does happen. I was in a game once where a player with an expensive fetches and shocks (and even duals I think?) manabase was whining and bitching because the player to his right dropped a Primal Order out of one of the least cutthroat {B/G} decks I've ever seen. Eventually the player...

One Pack One Pick (p1p1 thread)

I hadn't looked at it that way, but you're totally right about Act. If you want to stick to your p4 Bolt you could certainly pick it up. I still think moving into green is a smart move here, it does look really open.

Fair enough. I never had that problem, despite playing with a lot of different players, but then again, deck building was my greatest passion in Magic, and I had over a hundred casual decks sleeved at the height of my casual Magic days (before I got kids), so I always had an appropriate deck on...

One Pack One Pick (p1p1 thread)

If Garruk and the Hydra are still in that pack, green is probably open? They both combo nicely with the Battle Screech. I don't really like how Thalia interacts with our picks so far, and Blasphemous Act seems like it goes in a different deck. I think I'ld pick the Hydra here. Seems like a nice...

Why are you looking for a solution? This so called problem with casual Magic lives mainly in the heads (and blogs) of those who dislike casual. People who like casual are fine with the way things are. In other words: there is no problem.

Dragonlord Silumgar is just awesome to play with, plus easy to splash for if I get pushed out of one of the colors! :)

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Sure, 1/1 flying would work. Alright, alright :) Mannequin option might be feelbad on a sorcery card though? I already got Life // Death in the cube though, so another reanimate option feels somewhat redundant? Then again, on a 450 pool, does it really matter? Three mana is certainly a fair...

I was just asking myself that after seeing this booster earlier today :)

Ah, I just found its greatest shortcoming. Flameshot doesn't hit players!

    General Draft Strategy

After todays P1P1 I was wondering whether I should cut Phyrexian Metamorph. You can never go wrong with it p1p1, because it will always end up in your deck, and it will always be a powerful play. Kitchen Finks is maybe prone to too many shenanigans. It might not be a bad idea to cut that...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

A cubable Pilgrim's Eye should probably just have its power sharpied into a 2. Yeah... Not being able to resurrect all creatures kinda sucks. I'm looking for a mode that feels fair on a 3-mana spell though, something to accompany Necromancy. Maybe the Reanimate drawback? Or the Makeshift...

I'll respectfully disagree. Being able to tell when a game is over is certainly a cornerstone of many games, but the major intent of games (usually) is engaging its players in a fun pastime.

Say I'm looking for a blue/black reanimation spell. How is this: Planned Awakening {3}{U}{B} Sorcery Draw a card, then discard a card. Each player returns all creature cards from his or her graveyard to the battlefield. Too easy to abuse? Or maybe... Stirring Memories{1}{U}{B} Choose one...

Phyrexian Metamorph is a pretty safe pick here, It'll always make your deck.

Removing a red card is more painful than removing a Mountain though, as is {4}{r}{r} vs {3}{r}. Modern frame is a solid point though ;)

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Not free though, pitching a Mountain is a real cost, especially in a control-oriented deck. In fact, this better in an aggro deck, giving it the option to still curve out creatures and pitch surplus mana to clear blockers out of the way. Lovely suggestion! (It's also a manaless prowess trigger...

He's not adressing my point though. If you have a playgroup of anti-competitive players, neither of whom is interested at "breaking" the format, nor prioritizing winning the game, what happens is you can have fun games where wacky stuff happens. For players like that (players like me I would...

Funny article, but he is stereotyping a lot there. I love EDH, but I refuse to play with foils for example, and I don't want to buy ABU duals even though I could afford some because why would I spend that much money on a land when there are more than enough cheap duals available? Also, why is...

I actually cut Grafted Wargear for being too strong. I just read an mtgs cube thread about equipment, and when the power max dudes are saying it is situationally better than half of the Swords of X and Y, you know you have an insane piece of equipment on your hands.
