I made a population sample based on the calculated percentages. Excel tells me the Standard Deviation is 1.04 in the Magmatic Insight case, and 0.84 in the normal case. Nothing too unexpected I guess? You draw two more cards after all, so I'ld expect the stdev to be higher. Of course this does...

Correct and indeed :) The calculations nicely back up your proposition that it might even be correct to use Magmatic Insight even with a 2-lander. Those extra 2 draws will, on average, nearly make up for the discarded land, which basically makes this a very good digging spell.

More numbers! So, E(land) t4 is the number of lands you expect to have drawn by turn 4, provided you're on the play, play 17 lands, and no other card draws. Add to that the number of lands in your opener, and you know how many lands you have. The 1,27 number for Magmatic Insight includes...

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

Sure, if you can reach 7 mana these spells certainly pack a 2-for-1 punch, but that sounds more like a problem in your environment than a problem with your removal suite. It should be pretty easy to overload your deck with expensive removal spells with a sufficiently aggressive deck or a deck...

RE: Magmatic Insight I was wondering if I could statistically answer the question whether you should pitch your second land to Magmatic Insight if you're on the play and you got only two lands in your opener. I'm supposing 17 lands in a 40 card deck here. I'll represent the hand as P2/7 (on...

Let me know how Flameshadow Conjuring works out! I've ordered one but can't find room for it. I probably should cut another burn spell for it, since I seem to be running too much red removal anyway :)

    sharzad (safra's cube)

This didn't make a whole lot of sense at times but still was entertaining to read :) I am glad Tragic Arrogance was such a blast, because it's definitely going into my cube as well!

Why are you guys still arguing? Is there any doubt about which of these two colors is actually in the market for a hard to block "3/1"? Or are you just arguing because someone is wrong on the internet? You are going around in circles guys, and frankly the discussion is missing the entire point...

It was cast against me, and it was actually interesting. 4/6 doesn't kill you on the spot, like, say, a 6/6 Frost Titan would, but it's definitely big and annoying enough that it needs to be dealt with sooner or later. It also works on defense when you can't profitably attack, unlike Frost...

Sentinel of the Eternal Watch I was super impressed by the 4/6 vigilance tapper. That thing is ridiculously hard to get rid of, ploughs through most board states with its 4 power and 6 toughness, taps down the most annoying creature each turn, and does offense and defense thanks to vigilance! I...

I fail to see how Latch Seeker is an apt comparison to Acolyte of the Inferno. They are only ever competing for the same spot in an {u}{r} tempo/aggro deck. Latch Seeker is closer to Wind Drake as a blue three-drop with evasion than it is to AotI. Because blue and red offer such wildly different...

Card/Deck Ug... What should I do with my Blue-Green section?

You mean other than Snakeform Fable of Wolf and Owl Though Fable is only good if you run a large Simic section, so you can trigger both abilities off multiple cards. Snakeform is just a versatile card though, the cantrip really helps.

Card/Deck Ug... What should I do with my Blue-Green section?

I love Coiling Oracle, but as a multicolor card it's pretty suspect I think unless you run a very large section like in my cube. If I know I'm {g/u} it will make my deck most of the time, because it's such good value, but it's not nearly powerful enough to draw me into the color combination, and...
