Doomspawner 2BB
Creature - Zombie
At the end of your turn, if a creature died this turn, put a 2/2 black Zombie creature token onto the battlefield, then each opponent loses life equal to the number of zombies you control.
3/3
Weak zombie tribal that doesn't need other zombies to be good?
I'm pretty good at being totally enthusiastic about a project like that, and then go "Ooh! Shiny!" at something else a month later. I'm up for submitting and reviewing ideas though as time permits and attention doesn't wane ;)
Check :)
Cemetery Reaper has been a perpetual near inclusion. I like that you can just run it without any zombies at all, because he can just crank them out himself.
Other interesting zombie cards you might have missed:
anathemancer
Fleshbag marauder
Glissa, the traitor
Liliana's reaver...
Ripple was pretty bad yeah.
I love sunburst, it's actually the mechanic that brought me back to the game! Etched Oracle and Pentad Prism (into t3 Bringers!!!) still have a special place in my heart.
Splice onto Arcane was a pretty bad limited mechanic. It caused real feel-bad moments when you...
Well, unlikely is not the same as impossible. I would put probably put a Miscalculation under the Scepter if the opportunity presented itself, but I wouldn't be really happy about it.
Furthermore, the problem with Scepter isn't that there aren't enough interesting 1-2 cmc instants, it's that...
I think we can turn to the Karsten article on mana bases again. Provided you want to drop the Scepter on t4 so that you can activate it immediately, mitigating the removal blowout, we can look how many instants ("lands") we would need to play in order to "guarantee" (90%) at least one...
I agree. It also subtly forces your hand in cube design, since you need to have a critical mass of 2 cmc instants. So, you run Diabolic Edict instead of Chainer's Edict, or Lightning Strike instead of Volcanic Hammer. I took out the Scepter when I realized I was cutting sorceries and 3+ cmc...
That is, without a doubt, the biggest "vanilla" creature you can run. I considered him, but he isn't that interesting to be honest. Lightning Angel and Numot, the Devastator seem more at place in your typical WUR deck.
I think he's talking about Leatherback Baloth vs Woolly Thoctar? That's a pretty interesting question actually, but my gut feeling is that GGG is more restrictive than RGW.
Now let's look it up. I linked to this excellent article by Frank Karsten before, and it answers our question pretty well...
A vanilla 2/2 for C or a 3/3 for 1C would be cubable I guess. Aside from aggro decks though, vanilla creatures just aren't that interesting. I couldn't imagine a balanced vanilla card that a control deck would want to play for example.
Hey Jason, guess what? MaRo dislikes Hornet Queen and Hornet Nest. Not only because they are flying tokens in green, but also because he could do without cards that make 4+ deathtouch creatures!
Mana Elemental 1R
Creature - Elemental
~ enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
Remove a +1/+1 counter from Mana Elemental: Add 1 to your mana pool.
2/0
I so want this to enter the battlefield with two counters, but at 3/2 it's probably too good...
You mean it turns every creature you draw into a Typhoid Rats, as long as your 2/2 for 2BG remains alive. I don't know, might not be fun to play against maybe, but evasion works. It's also a decision for the caster, do I evoke or not?
