Ok, I think I'm convinced. I always thought that Blighted Gorge stacked up poorly to Stensia Bloodhall, while Blighted Woodland was a poor man's version of Myriad Landscape, but I guess they're both different cards with their own upsides.

Blighted Steppe Blighted Cataract Blighted Fen Blighted Gorge Blighted Woodland Are all of the Blighted lands good enough for the utility land draft? I'm trying the blue and black ones for sure, but am on the fence about the others.

    General Draft Strategy

Yeah, the vast majority of planeswalkers push towards Good Stuff midrange, and tend to dominate synergy-based strategies all by themselves. I really, really love Garruk Wildspeaker - he's probably my favourite planeswalker design - and while he enables a lot of fun synergy decks, he's almost...

Same here! Apples to Apples looks like a kids' game, but because of the simplicity and versatility of its phrases, you can adapt it for pretty much any social group and age range. My favourite off-colour card that I played in Apples to Apples was when the word in the middle was "addictive", so...

    General Draft Strategy

I think it's alright if a five or six mana planeswalker can survive in those situations, as five mana generally represents a considerable investment - Tamiyo has never been a problem around here - but I agree that that's a good litmus test to use for four mana walkers.

    General Draft Strategy

I've taken it one step further, and - along with the planeswalkers who make bodies for either zero or positive loyalty - I'm also cutting planeswalkers whose jobs are mainly to prolong the game. Gideon Jura is the prime example of that, but Jace, Architect of Thought is another guilty party, and...

    Card/Deck The Simic Combine

Why don't we table this discussion for now and take it offline. I'm not sure that either of us has the bandwidth to take on any more tasks, but maybe we can leverage the work the sales guys are doing on this front over the next quarter. Lots of synergy there.

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

Yeah, I'm more and more inclined to give Grip of Desolation a try. Volcanic Offering was very strong over here when we had it in - imagine Acidic Slime, except it kills their best creature instead of a middling one! - so six mana might actually be a fairer cost for this kind of effect.

remember that time there was almost an all-out flame war between the two sites, that started escalating and getting pretty ugly before it got shut down good times!

pretty sure i need to set the forum software to auto-ban the word 'EDH', in addition to 'tempo' that, or force all of you guys to define what tempo is in the context of an EDH game

One Pack One Pick (p1p1 thread)

Yeah, that's always been my problem with Phyrexian Metamorph - it's not inherently busted like colourless cards in the vein of Jitte, Wurmcoil, or Skullclamp, but I eventually removed it from my list because it was a safe, boring pick. If you opened it pack 1 pick 1 and the cube's power level...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I actually quite like Doomed Traveler a lot, to the point where I'm now doubling up on him, after having cut back on Champions of the Parish. A token with evasion is useful at any point in the game - unlike Young Wolf's second form - and while the front side of the card won't win any awards for...

One Pack One Pick (p1p1 thread)

Wow, I love that pack from a budget cube - shows that a lack of expensive mythics doesn't mean the packs can't be both strong and interesting! Bloodbraid Elf is probably objectively the 'wrong' choice in that it's an immediate two-colour commitment, but man am I tempted. Otherwise, Preordain...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

I really hate Gideon, Ally of Zendikar's design, probably unnaturally so. +0 to spit out 2/2 tokens is probably what it takes to make something standard playable, but in cube, abilities like that tend to gum up the board to no end and lead to games that take forever. I threw in Xenagos, the...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

Safe Passage was actually always better on defence than on offence. You can gang block, and then make some pretty profitable trades. I almost always played the first copy, but usually not the second or third. It was tricky to time when exactly to actually deploy it - do I just get the...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

Not to sound presumptuous or condescending, but... I assume you don't play much limited? Bashing creatures into each other in combat is where the majority of retail limited games are decided, as removal is pretty weak in this day and age; protecting your whole team is not a small game. Even when...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

Yeah, Safe Passage was a pretty big blowout back in the day... and this one even spawns a creature! I think FSR hit the nail on the head. The allies and colourless themes are unfortunately both linear and tribal (kinda), and ingest is probably too weak to make "their exiled cards matter"...
