    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Time of Ice is shockingly good, as are most of the Dominaria sagas. Rusje is right that it can be used against you to reset an ETB, but you can easily take advantage of your opponent's greed by saving a combat trick for that bad attack out of their Priest of Ancient Lore. It also gets extra...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Making it a fight instead of a bite allows for the opponent to set up cool counterplay story moments and might allay some concerns around power level. Nifty card, though.

    Design Diary: Cooperative Deckbuilder

Why not do both? Have an individual deck and a shared deck with cards that cycle into each as circumstances demand. Card backs being different could even let savvy players count cards--you could make that a feature and not a bug. You could flavor it as the individual deck representing yourself...

I don't think that Ravnic's account was hacked, I think that the new user (bot?) just inserted the link into the quote text. The original post is unchanged.

General Major change to Standard: Cards rotate slower

Gotta love it when it's time for the rotation schedule to rotate out. How long has this one been around, five years?

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Context matters. If I have a Sarinth Steelseeker then even just one trigger can be backbreaking, but if it's just a generic value piece then the break-even is probably at 2.5 or whatever with 2 being tolerable and 3 being quite good. That is to say, it really matters whether your drafters pick...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I'm a fan of it as a way to get Green into both spellslinger and artifacts while expending relatively little real estate. I'm not saying it's not clunky, but it's a worthwhile bit of clunk. It's also worth noting that it's best played as a 4-drop alongside a critter, so I'd mentally bump it up...

Sets (LTR) The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth

My guess is backwards compatibility. Look at how much of a pain it is that the characters from the WH40K decks are Astartes and not humans, but picture that in a Modern where tribal can actually play a role.

Sets (LTR) The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth

Oh, I was reacting to I'm not quite as against Tenpted By The Ring as Mown is, but it sure looks like a lot of mechanics that I've not enjoyed. Maybe mistaken identity, maybe another thread? Idk. But! We have cards now!! I underestimated Wizard's Rockets until Onderzeeboot framed it as a...

Sorry, that's not the post I was replying to. I thought that LadyMapi's list of interesting ZNR non-mythic DFCs was a little scant and so I wanted to append a few I like. Of course, I'm an absolute DFC freak, apart from werewolves, so my opinion might be a little biased.

I'm always a fan of open-ended cards, so the flexibility of the provisioner is going to be my vote. Nissa (edit: stupid autocorrect) is great if you're hunting for a particular elemental; I think the ideal use case is to use it to hunt for an Omnath variant or something of that ilk?

No love for these? jwari disruption Hagra mauling spikefield hazard Skyclave cleric Jwari Disruption is Censor that's guaranteed to draw an Island. Mauling is poor rate, but it and the hazard can both kill things. Skyclave Cleric is a great defensive tool for decks that need to hit their land...

I'm willing to try it! I had thought it might be a bit too clunky, but didn't realize that it could be a single-target fog on defense as well. Thanks Train and LadyMapi!

Not to be a turbo-nerd, but I think a breakdown of the realm's power structure would likely lead to more battles, not fewer.

Thanks all for helping me clarify this! Agreed that instant speed and up-front power is huge. I'll probably make the following changes: Herald of Anafenza -> Recruitment Officer Infantry Veteran -> Dauntless Bodyguard + Icatian Javelineers as a mediocre yet tolerable blink/reanimation target.

    General Fight Club

Herald of Anafenza Recruitment officer Time to pointlessly debate one-drops! These two seem to fill the same role of lategame mana sink for an aggro deck that's otherwise stalled out. I like Herald because it goes both wide and tall, but I like the Officer because she starts bigger and has more...

Whoa whoa whoa, you're saying that you don't think we'll see battles in the set about knights? I think Eldraine is more about individual knights questing than big battles à la Agincourt, but even Arthurian legends culminate in a battle. That seems a far more natural home for them than in Ixalan.
