Sets (LCI & REX) Lost Caverns of Ixalan and Jurassic Park spoilers

Trouble is, these cards kinda suck--I run both and they're just fine. They're not bad, but they're nowhere near p1p1 material because they get stonewalled by midrange sides of beef like Bannerhide Krushok most of the time and that's not something you can afford in my environment. To my real...

Sets (LCI & REX) Lost Caverns of Ixalan and Jurassic Park spoilers

I'm also looking at Zoo--I love just how creepy Kird Ape's art is--and Cenote Scout caught my eye too. Lots of goodies in this set! I will say, my biggest concern between this and WOE is how many 2-for-1 cards there are between adventures, craft cards, etc. I've found myself having to be really...

For the record: Same here. I just don't think that there's anything much new to be said except that I, like Miles, think that this was inevitable once it became apparent that Universes Beyond sets make a pantload of money for everyone involved.

    General New Booster

I think it's optimal for Wizards to do both and I think that they are trying to do both. Things might skew one way or the other depending on how trends are looking, but they're always going to do both. Looking back at the last almost two decades I've been playing (yikes!), it's been clear that...

Sets (LCI & REX) Lost Caverns of Ixalan and Jurassic Park spoilers

I think either one is a real possibility, but my money is on "cascade into XYZ." It's something that WotC already kinda does with Seek and is something they've mentioned wanting to do in the past.

    General New Booster

I would not have guessed this. Time to update my heuristics! Oof. This hurts. This is interesting to me because I started right around Time Spiral and I remember loving how funky these cards were--same with Kamigawa. I guess I've forgotten this reaction, or maybe the Magic audience has grown...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Tbf, this turns absolutely anything into a threat and so can kind of be considered a threat in and of itself in a way that something like Trade Routes can't; but yeah, that's a really good way of looking at it.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Sure! But the downside seemed particularly useful in Death's Shadow-centric sections, and I don't think many (any?) of those used in in that specific context.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Vampire Lacerator People have been really into the whole Death's Shadow thing recently and I saw one of these in my bulk box yesterday. Might be worth a try! It's also a lot easier to get your opponent to 10 with the rise of double/triple shock/fetch manabases virtually starting games at 14-16...

    General New Booster

Didn't know that today's B&R was going to include draft boosters, SMH my head. Collectors' boosters are far more meta-defining and are the real culprit in declining game health if you ask me. /uj I'm a big fan of occasionals and this is actually a fairly quick adoption of those by WotC's...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

I have the same seven cards in my green section, but I think the biggest difference is that you don't have a lot of graveyard support in G, which makes it so that you need to start from B to get into BG, and starting G will always lean towards a stompy route--no Satyr Wayfinders or Grapple with...

Yeah, if it had trample then it would be rough, but as it stands I'm fine with letting it become a 6/6 on T4/T5. If a deck can't win against that with that much prep time then I don't want it to win.

    General Current Cube Obstacles

Scheduling is a hassle and there's always a ton to do. Unrelated, but my biggest cube problem right now is resisting the urge to reshuffling ~20% of my cube to other cards that I like a lot. I don't think it would change too much about how it plays (at least I think most of the modules I'm...

    General (WHO) Dr. Who Spoilers

I suspect that a lot of the blandness of the Doctors in particular comes from the fact that they have to play somewhat well and a little synergistically with each companion, which is an absurd number of permutations. They probably decided that they wanted companions to go with any doctor early...

    General (WHO) Dr. Who Spoilers

Dinosaurs on a Spaceship What a cute alternative to Assemble the Legion that even poops out Skyknight Legionnaires! This is way faster than the enchantment and also has a big finish, meaning that it still has some inevitability but isn't quite as painful in the "yes I'm definitely going to lose...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

Couple thoughts-- Chandra, Hope's Beacon Fires of Invention Alternative cards for 5C Red, which is a cool archetype. This Chandra seems a lot less problematic than Torch of Defiance due to the higher CMC, but since she's able to uptick--double the spell cast off of that ability, she's still...

    The MDFC

Shakshuka!! Thank you for the idea, good call there. Serra paragon is a good call and is in fact on my standby list, it was just $20 at the time when I made my last order for cards and I'm not going to order another set of proxies until I can max out MPC's order list! The trick, I think, would...

    The MDFC

I stole the idea from Anthony and Andy of LPR! They do a few segments on this, but I can't think of one off the top of my head. Food started at 11, with draft to start at 12 (secretly 12:30). Things worked great! Big ups to this, which is I think my biggest takeaway from this draft.
