    General "Looking for a card"-Thread

Isn't there an entire thread devoted to this discussion? Haven't seen it around in quite a while though

This seems really spicy. That restriction of Trinket Mage that reigns in it being busted with the really strong utility angle. Looks great.

hmm, interesting question. Two-card kill combo is pretty strong, but 9 mana is quite a lot. Seems like a pretty 'fair' combo to include in a cube all-in-all. Allows the deck to be more control and spells focused than using something like an X spell that might only deal 14 damage or something...

Lazy isn't the right word, simply conversationally efficient. In the vast majority of accepted definitions of race, African and other African-descended peoples all fall under one race of 'african' or 'black' etc. This isn't confusing Koreans with some other nation (both Pakistani and Korean...

Seems more like anotak just didn't feel the statement made was worth expounding on, which I agree with. Not every discussion point needs to be surgically precise, conversations would take forever.

some neat stuff so far. I just want to point out that Pir's Whim searches up a land, not a basic land, so that adds to the power level. Seems good in either a format with heavy artifact or enchantment theme(s) where this can be a good incidental control mechanism with a ramp upside, or in a...

for any of those "unwinnable game" examples, it's still true that if those players perceived some sort of cheating or other unfair deception they'd be pissed. There is technically some allowance to win in any of those examples, at least by perception. Any (negative) deviation from that nominal...

First one hits it good with the fact that mtg cards have virtually zero intrinsic value, with only player acceptance and faith providing any meaning. Good video, questionable views on inclusivity aside. Second one has some cool science, and I think also hits a key point: Wizards needs to care...

General How to execute a minimalist Artifact theme

Yeah that's what I was looking for. 3 of each effect, all in one color. Adding in other combo methods using other colors can definitely expand it. For instance, also adding black or red gives you underhanded designs Makeshift munitions Krark-clan ironworks Ashnod's altar Phyrexian altar Not to...

It states this directly in the article, yes. They can be partnered as commanders, but only together as this pair.

I think Kamigawa failed setting-wise in some larger part due to the part Aston mentions above about characters. I very commonly see discussed the point about how the card names were very complicated, and didn't resonate well at all with western audiences. What exactly is "It that was Taken"...

General How to execute a minimalist Artifact theme

I don't know if an archetype can be built entirely with cheap-ish artifacts that go to the GY, but I do know that the "baubles" are a really solid low-end basis for an artifact deck to function. Lots of them are also good in a variety of decks that want color fixing/smoothing, cantrips, etc. I...

There's almost never a situation where powering up the fixing is a bad thing. Removing them from rare slots I'd thunk would give you more opportunities to get useful and powerful things, rather than probably pulling the wrong 2 color land in your rare slot.

And uncommon in only some, and rare in just one of them, I think. Just highlights how silly rarity is in the grand scheme of things. And, with maybe a few exceptions, I don't think 'rare' lands should be rare. Lands don't do much but enable you to play your deck. At the very least the...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Taking proper considerations regarding a 5-mana non-etb finisher working in a format, yeah I guess it could be a thing. Definitely adds an interesting mini-game to the board, wherein the opponent must work to keep a creature out for blocking, or remove the Master, lest they fall to 1. I...

    A deceptively bad cube

The two Mystical Teachings and Mystic Retrievals do indeed count in many ways and are all at 4 CMC. It's a pretty stacked slot. And that's not counting actual multicolor either. I'd say replacing one of the firebolts is good yeah.
