Sets (MoM) April of the Machines Previews

Yeah, Knight-Errant isn't the house it once was but I'd say that's just better in the long run as walkers are almost always the best card type in non-combo environments. It's still got enough game to just get the job done in most cubes and it's just a solid card with good gameplay patterns...

Sets (MoM) April of the Machines Previews

I think it's especially bad when you're going to have different variations of the same object that all need to be interpreted differently. Like if you have a Luminarch Aspirant out that puts counters on a creature alongside this new Elspeth you could have a board with a normal token off the +1...

Sheoldred's Edict is the truth. I had multiple plays in my last cube draft where it was relevant in helping me snipe a Deep Forest Hermit, allowed me to take out a Construct token, and even get to an otherwise safe walker behind blockers. Really sweet card.

Actually gonna chime in with a different take where if you had to get rid of one of the three, I'd keep Iconoclast and the big Saheeli (assuming this is the Brother's War card?) and cut 3 mana Saheeli. Ideally you'd just keep all three in the cube, but if space is at a premium I prefer the...

Yup, that's it. The combination of "green" and "artifacts" gave me too many hits to wade through in forum search but that works.

I vaguely recall a post by someone a while back about a G/x Artifacts archetype that they had come up with, anyone have a link for reference? I was able to fire off a true 8-man pod yesterday with friends in town (Cube recap incoming!) and one of my drafters drafted an interesting hybrid of GW...

Magic combining effects into creatures isn't anything new, but literally combining creatures into each other just feels like peak laziness to me. These are incredibly uninspired designs.

I didn't really see any cards that interested me after reviewing the set, but I think I'd be more open because then they would just be weird charge counters at that point. But most of the noncreature oil counters cards look too durdly to be worth trying out in my cube.

My cube already has +1/+1 counters that can be put on creatures via stuff like Felidar Retreat, Siege Veteran or Luminarch Aspirant. I don't want to make my drafters have to keep track of potentially two different kinds of counters on a creature with dice. The wordiness is also annoying outside...

    General Defining & Optimizing Complexity

I think it comes down to the expectations you'd like to present to your drafters. Unnecessary fluff on cards creates distractions that you as the cube designer can just gloss over due to so much exposure with your own list, but the same cannot be expected of players that might draft your cube a...

Looks like I'm a week late for this one, but thankfully it's a short list for inclusions this time around. There's just a lot of text on many of these cards and once it mentions toxic or oil counters I'm out. Over the years I've been leaning towards avoiding additional text wherever possible...

General How much do you love Magic right now

I still enjoy playing Magic, the game itself and social parts of it are as fun as ever, but I'm not anywhere near as interested as I was in the past. Part of it is due to other hobbies and interests taking precedence over the years, but I'd say the core issue I have with the game is the current...

Sets (ONE) Phyrexia: All Will Be One Previews

Just adding onto this, but I think it's more the accumulation of very aggressive banning strategy over the previous 2 years that was the precursor to them destroying that format as a whole. If you were active with an LGS you could see the degradation happen in real-time ever pre-pandemic. I...

Sets (ONE) Phyrexia: All Will Be One Previews

I dunno if they could have printed something so against my cube design preferences outside an Un-set but they've pulled it off. So much unnecessary complexity, everything wrong with current MTG design with overly wordy cards. Not being able to block as well as zero evasion just makes this real...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I run them both, view Giant Killer as more a removal spell than creature when it comes to evaluation. For aggressive decks you want a critical mass of creatures that can apply pressure before the opponent stabilizes with a 3 or 4 drop and Officer lets you get under while also providing flood...

For me it depends on whichever version of the card looks the best to me. Most of the time that does end up being the oldest printing usually with an old frame, but this recent run with retro treatments have definitely made me lean towards certain card printings. However not all retro printings...

Altar of Dementia is a better roleplayer in more decks while Phyrexian Altar is pretty much just a combo outlet from my experience, and you usually need 2 other pieces. I don't play either currently but I'd lean towards Dementia.
