Card/Deck Shit Thread: Planeswalker Tier List

I'm actually paring down to one per colour, for the most part, with the exception of white. Two per feels a little heavy in a 360 list, as you tend to see the same powerful walkers over and over again. I'm becoming more partial to gold walkers these days, as they feel like a suitable reward for...

    General You Go Away Now

I really like Griselbrand with a low-power reanimator theme (e.g. Thirst for Knowledge and Makeshift Mannequin rather than Entomb and Reanimate). He doesn't randomly lock people out of games like Iona or Sphinx of the Steel Wind, has interesting play to him, and can realistically be beaten even...

Card/Deck Shit Thread: Planeswalker Tier List

That's kind of why I find Karn Liberated a bit lackluster. He's pretty swell when you're ahead or there's a ground stall; but when you're losing, he tends to eat a guy and then get eaten himself. Not always where I want to be for seven mana.

    General Fixing Mulligans, Improving Games

We errata'ed Power Play so that it would only affect Game 1 of every match, and it was still a littttle too good for my tastes. As anyone who read the other thread might be aware, I'm of the opinion that the draw/go problem is real, especially in faster environments like most of the lists on...

Card/Deck Shit Thread: Planeswalker Tier List

I'm with you on Karn. I think he's a smidgeon overrated in cube, even though he's eminently castable by any deck trying to do so. He's often a little lower impact than I'd expect for a seven-drop, as he's more of a value machine than an outright bomb, as most other sevens are. I think I've...

Card/Deck Kill it with fire (let's talk removal)

I'm partial towards Barter in Blood It even works well in the Gravecrawler decks!

General What low-power themes would you explore, time permitting?

Combat tricks! Okay, this isn't so much a theme, but I'd love to have a cube where Briarhorn isn't embarrassing.

wait Lucas has a bias...? this is the first I've heard of that

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yeah, every forum has its biases, even if people don't want to look in the mirror and admit it. As much as we like to say we aren't about power-max here at Riptide Lab, there's still very much an expectation that everyone's cubes are of the very-high-powered-just-not-with-stupid-cards mold. It...

Wait, Jason runs sorcery-speed removal...? I think with a little more nudging, it won't be long before we see him trot out Volcanic Hammer alongside all his Brainstorms and Birthing Pods.

No, for lower powered cubes, I think having only one ETB Terror guy is about the right number. That's actually where I'm at now, too.

General Where did you start with cube?

I started building my cube in late 2010, and debuted it early in 2011. It was kind of a pile, made up mostly of cards I owned from the last couple of Standard seasons, starting with Shards of Alara and going up to Scars of Mirrodin. It wasn't a good cube, by any objective measure, but it still...

    MCMcEmcee's Cube~ [450]

Interesting, I just cut Karn Liberated, Knight of the Reliquary, and Quirion Dryad in my last update, too. ...Don't tell Lucas.

    MCMcEmcee's Cube~ [450]

Hmmm, interesting. It's not so much a trap, here, it's more.. the best card in black, head and shoulders above the rest. Really brings those Gravecrawler decks together, which have an average cmc of like 1.7. So I was wondering if you had banned it or something.

General Jitte and assorted GRBS, P1P1, etc.

I expected Thragtusk to do a lot of damage when I threw it into my cube, but I was as surprised as anyone that it's merely been good, but fair. Unlike fives like Baneslayer Angel or Wolfir Silverheart, Thragtusk doesn't represent a must-answer threat that takes over the game within two turns...

General Need Help with the Design Skeleton of a Cube.

Even in the unlikely scenario that your only gold cards slot in at uncommon and rare, the fact that they'll be at a higher power level than your commons will entice people to play and splash as many of them as possible. Given that people naturally gravitate towards powerful rares and uncommons...

    MCMcEmcee's Cube~ [450]

I was looking at your list last night, cause I wanted to see what kind of cards another high-power-but-not-power-max cube runs, when I noticed you don't have Dark Confidant - a card that I'm keeping an eye on in my own list. Curious if this is this absent because of budget reasons, or power...
