General A neat idea for testing...

That said, understanding power level is useful and design can go poorly if you're far off the mark (Skullclamp and Jitte say hello). I just think it's like Step 0 in a long design process. Sure, I could say Blood Baron is stronger than Obzedat, but that's just a sliver of the information I...

General A neat idea for testing...

I do think it's a nice idea, but one to be used very sparingly. I think MTGS is really plagued by this notion that picking the stronger card from a player perspective is always the correct design decision, when in fact design is very much about creating good and enjoyable decision dynamics with...

    Card/Deck [MCD] Graveyard Hate

@CML, you might have missed it in my post, so I'll ask explicitly: Can elaborate on what specific sorts of graveyard decks / effects are too powerful in your cube? The reason I ask is that a lot of the spells you mention will be utterly useless against many types of graveyard effects. Identity...

    Card/Deck [MCD] Graveyard Hate

Deckstats says mine is 2.74, and that's counting stuff like Porcelain Legionnaire as 3 CMC and my two copies of Greater Gargadon as 10 CMC.

Once my decks start failing to find off of Path to Exile, I think it's gone too far. :)

    Card/Deck [MCD] Graveyard Hate

Lol at Reanimate being "graveyard hate". The net effect of including reanimate in a cube is to need even more graveyard hate. Perhaps you can elaborate on what specific sorts of graveyard decks / effects are too powerful in your cube? Goyf is very rarely smaller than a 3/4 here (land, creature...

    Article ChannelFireball: Utility Land Draft

Currently an 8-man draft of my cube will have 78 lands drafted and 106 lands to choose from (numbers combine main draft and utility draft). I don't really think we need to pass above 10 lands drafted per player.

    Hannes' Novice Cube

You just increase the speed at which things go in the graveyard. Fetchlands, Thought Scour, etc. Also, it should be noted that Vintage has a prominant dredge deck. CML also runs a fair share of Dredge cards too.

    Hannes' Novice Cube

This would be the first instance (that I am aware of) of Giant tribal as an archetype. However, the Titans kind of win the game on their own and I'm not sure if your cube has nearly enough fuel to keep a Jotun grunt online.

No worries about shooting down suggestions. I do it all the time too, but often a not-quite-right suggestions spurs additional thoughts, which is why I post stuff like Jotun Grunt regardless. I think it's funny how different our assessments of Tarmogoyf are, but a lot of that is very...

    RipLab Marketing

I prototyped a front page in Wordpress. I've never used Wordpress before, but here's what I whipped up to show the potential: http://moxmoxbalancego.wordpress.com/ A nice little minimalist site that links clearly to our forums, allows for beautiful card images, and can be a great home to...

    Card/Deck [MCD] Graveyard Hate

Another option is to go the Innistrad route: add even more graveyardy stuff, and by virtue any graveyard hate becomes less narrow as graveyard strategies take up a greater proportion of your design.

General Having different configurations for different packs

Yeah, that's an interesting point. The current RTR full block draft is very front-loaded on fixing, and it creates an interesting dynamic. Do I take these powerful cards now, or take fixing to give myself better freedom to take powerful cards later?

    Card/Deck [MCD] Graveyard Hate

Well, I don't currently have a graveyard theme so much as I have a Gravecrawler theme. I gave some ideas here for Gravecrawler hate (http://www.channelfireball.com/articles/cube-design-remodeling-part-two/), but they are mostly things that send creatures to exile/library instead of the...

    Card/Deck Supporting Storm

Hi Vibe, my main question regarding these sorts of archetypes is "why cards are good storm cards that other decks also want". This is a pretty key element to the design for me. From a design-standpoint, cards like Burning-Tree Emissary (as I see Dom mentioned) are really vital there. Suspend...

The Dandy Cube (Chris Taylor's Cube)

30 Fetchlands in 540 cards would be the same density as 20 in 360, and I can tell you firsthand it hasn't been a problem. Horizon Canopies are welcome anywhere. As are shocks, painlands, etc. checklands are fine too.

The Dandy Cube (Chris Taylor's Cube)

Okay Chris, I am sorry, but we are going to have to hold Flavor Court, right here, right now. Shardless Agent is an artifact creature, suggesting some sort of Espery thing. However, his colors are UG, which only fit in Bant. This is a mis-match, hence, no shard. Shardless. The prosecution...
