    General Recording Paper Drafts

Just got back from the draft. Went 2 - 1 with a WBr midrangy deck, losing to the eventual winner (UR Control). He killed me with Ludevic's Test Subject. I know I made some drafting mistakes, and wasn't in the best colors for my seat. As far as Zombies go, the sacrifice effects are varied and...

    [Brainstorming/Building] Dom's spell-centric Cube

The number one most important thing for me is, if you're going to have an aggro presence, figure out a way for there to be ways for aggro to interact with the combo decks. Tidehollow Sculler and friends (and Cabal Therapy, etc.) are great for this. Vintage has really cool kind of aggro/prison...

I don't really care about language, but I think at times tone can be very important. People won't want to join in if they perceive there to be a hostile tone. Not to say that there is one, but let's keep an eye towards keeping the tone intellectual and inviting, especially when we disagree.

    Card/Deck Chrome Mox

Yeah, as we saw from Caw-Blade mirrors, getting a high-impact play on the board a turn earlier (either via coin flip or Mox) can be very strong. EDIT: Not to imply that anybody ever played a Standard Stoneforge on Turn 1.

    General Recording Paper Drafts

Alright, so we have a group of 8 scheduled to draft tonight, so I will be trying this for the first time. I have to say I'm a little nervous, more from the design side from the player side. Many of our regulars are not there, so the players will be less familiar with the unique archetypes I have...

General Quilting: a two-player draft format

Well, I'll certainly test it next time I get an opportunity. I'll try it the default way, and then probably try with an 8x9 or 9x9 grid with a few more picks.

    Card/Deck Chrome Mox

I've heard it theorized by some pro (can't remember who) that if Chrome Mox were legal in Modern you would see a lot more Turn 1 Dark Confidants. EDIT: I just realized my comment sounds really stupid as worded, considering there are currently no decks that put Turn 1 Dark Confidants on the board.

Card/Deck Mana rocks / Colourless mana fixing

Sphere of the Suns - My favorite, and managing counters is a really fun resource management thing. Coldsteel Heart - A fun choice, and I have definitely lost games from playing this card incorrectly. Everflowing Chalice - Trinket Mage target, if that's a thing for you. Wayfarer's Bauble -...

    Article ChannelFireball: Dragon's Maze Review

That's a good point Dom. What I was going for was to say that there are no other cards that reward you for dumping your hand (i.e. Hellbent), so a single copy of such an effect isn't one people are going to build around. You aren't going to build your deck to maximize Scrivener, but rather slot...

I mean, there's also a bit of a PR problem. Well, I was talking to Eric about it once, and our community is a bit of the far left of cube design. There are people who are going to hate certain ideas (and consequently these forums) by virtue of not being traditional. Not that that's a bad thing...

    Article ChannelFireball: Dragon's Maze Review

Hannes, you may be right. I was already at a pretty high word limit. I tried to avoid the reviewing mistake of just stating what the card does and giving the reader the benefit of the doubt for some baseline knowledge. Pacing is definitely an issue with set reviews, so I tried not to overstay my...

I gotta say there are some truly mean and hurtful people in the Magic community.

Yeah, I like it better too. Although, for two-players I find hate-drafting 3 cards per pick to be quite mentally taxing. That's 180 card picks you have to make throughout the draft.

    General Momir Vig Cube

Momir, the one format where you can get excited about this card: If I were designing a Momir stack, uh.... well, I'd fill it with fun things that perform differently in that environment. Like Duskmantle Seer! I also think there's the potential to make the environment much more fun than MODO...

    General Opportunities and Ideas

Regarding playing drafts together, does anybody have experience with playing Magic via Skype? I would love to draft decks with TappedOut then play them via Skype. Since we're all cubers, we should have most of the cards (and can proxy the rest), and it would be a fun social experience. I still...

    General Opportunities and Ideas

Hey Vibe, no offense taken regarding multiplayer Grid Drafting. Would it be awful to admit that I never really played the four player variant? People were asking for one on the MTGS forums so I devised one, and a couple weeks later saw Matt Kranstuber raving about it to Andy Cooperfauss on...

    Article ChannelFireball: Dragon's Maze Review

Hi Dom, can you be more precise? If there's anything I can do to improve any of the content I'd love to hear suggestions. For the set review I tried to keep it more general and not push my "fun max" agenda so hard, but there are certainly other things you might not have liked. Language too...
