Sets [C14] Commander 2014 Spoilers

I think ticket to ride is cute and fun and a great gateway game. I'm pretty sure you could get someone to play beginner agricola after a ticket to ride game or two. I think Catan is more fun to people who are into trying to get poker reads on each other for the purpose of making trades.

I like pachabels canon a lot more than fur elise. Incidentally I also hate pretty much all trance music.

Sure, it's a victimless crime and that's no crime at all, but that doesn't mean I'm going to go off to college in 2006 and tell people I'm from Seattle and hate* all of them who bring up Grey's Anatomy

*and maybe still try to fuck them anyway (unsuccessfully)

Maro officially said core sets are named for the coming year because big box stores will not carry a product with a previous year in its product name (can't find the actual post, it's at least a week old and search doesn't work on his blog). Commander decks don't actually have the year labeled as seen on box art in first post, they just say "Commander" and the deck name.
... To whom do those arms holding up his tools belong...
This guy, his eyeball is right there on the right

Man I hope the black walker is good. Like a Leshrac or Tevesh Tzat playable for cube would make my day. Two of my favourite magic characters to lol.

Feldon is apparently an older mtg character. Dude has an interesting mtg love story. I like him as a card, but damn I wish he wasn't so slow. Also, can we confirm a mythic cycle of "graveyard matters" legendary humans w/ activated abilities yet? Cuz there's 3 of them now.

Last note on Feldon: Seems to be worth consideration in a cube where artifacts matter. Idk why, but that whole "copy of thing is an artifact" stands out to me.

Man, they packed so much flavor into that text. These are the kinds of legendaries I like seeing. Great art, interesting abilities, and delicious flavor.

That Jazal dude looks like he might be a more toned-down incentive for token stategies than Hero of Bladehold.

{2}{W}{W}
First strike
{3}{W}{W}: Attacking creatures you control get +X/+X until end of turn, where X is the number of attacking creatures you control.

Ob Nixilus is the black planeswalker. It hit me hard as disappointing, but maybe he's cube-worthy?

Pros:
>has a decent +2 to balance out a powerful -2.
>can use his -2 right away & live.
>that ultimate is cool

Cons:
>That's 5 mana in that top right corner.
>The +2 is roughly somewhere between useless & horrible.
>You have to waste 3 turns doing nothing to hit an ultimate that's reliant on having a half decent board presence

I probably won't even bother testing him, but hey HE LOOX KEWL 4 COMMANDAR, GUYZ!

Also, Ajani's bro Jazal looks aight. Maybe a bit too vanilla, though...

Reef Worm {3}{U}

When Reef Worm dies, put a 3/3 blue Fish creature token onto the battlefield with
"When this creature dies, put a 6/6 blue Whale creature token onto the battlefield with
'When this creature dies, put a 9/9 blue Kraken creature token onto the battlefield.'"

0/1

Seems strong for riptide cubes.

There's a new Krosan Verge that can fetch any two basics as long as they're both the same.

Dualcaster Mage {1}{R}{R}

Flash
When Dualcaster Mage enters the battlefield, copy target instant or sorcery spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.

2/2

Grabsieber {5}{G}

Wenn der grabsieber ins spiel kommt, bestimmt jeder spieler einen kreaturetyp und bringt eine beliebige anzahl an karten dieses typs aus seinem friedhof auf seine hand zuruck.

5/7

after Google Translate:

Grave Sieber {5}{G}

If the grave sieber comes into play , each player determines a kreaturetyp and brings any number of cards of this type back from his graveyard to his hand .

Yeah, reef worm is a beast with any free sac outlet.

Freyalise can get in line with the other 5 mana green walkers I don't run.

Myriad Landscape is a potential utility land draft pick.

why is that a blue card? Shouldn't it be green?
Becuz worm fish into whale into leviathan is funnier than saproling into beast into wurm into... behemoth??

I honestly think there is simply no blue filter at wizards. MaRo and others are there policing red and black as hard as they can, but everything is essentially in blue so let it do whatever you want etc. "It's ok because the initial creature is a 0/1, that makes it blue enough" or something.

I don't think maro has much to do w commander products

Maybe not in this instance specifically, but he's the head of the color pie police and Head Designer of mtg altogether. It's not like he isn't allowed to say anything, and he's been very vocal about stopping cards like chaos warp from ever getting printed again, so I'm sure he gave the file a once-over before it went gold.

I'm assuming by "that" you mean "because rosewater didn't get a say," and while you'd be right about three years ago (or whenever), Mark has said he wouldn't let it happen again in the future, which is now. His current stance on things like the worm (master of waves, specifically) is "blue is allowed to make tokens" with no real restrictive clause. The only reason I brought up maro's name was because he's #1 color pie police, and I'm sure he has someone "on his side" on the design team. My point was just that this is fine with them even if the effect (and flavor) are clearly more green to anyone else. Blue strives for perfection through knowledge, green attains it through natural growth, which is what this is. The animals are just in the water so it's blue.

I wouldn't expect to get a Cube-worthy Walker here. As someone who plays a lot of EDH, I can totally see where these two (and Teferi) fit in. They're solid in multiplayer, way too slow for one-on-one. I do think some of the cards spoiled so far are sweet, like Jazal Goldmane and the evolving Wurm thing.
