General Custom Cards: The Lab

Looking for an interesting effect for a WB gold slot in my powered Vintage cube. I don't want to play removal/Vindicate.

Let me know any criticism and hit me up with your own WB designs.

I always found this an interesting card design: https://www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/comments/9sponp/life_creates_life/. I added lifelink to this card. It has always been in my cube, though I switched it to mono white after a while. However, this card has never really seen play so that's a bit sad.

That's a sweet card for sure! I'll give it some thought. I have about 4 similar cards in white right now, so it's feeling like white is just too resilient. Maybe I'll add this card to Orzhov and cut 1-2 of the other cards.

Thanks for sharing that dope design.

Uncoil feels too weak at 5 and too uncastable at GGWW. Could maybe be a 1GGWW instant. Would it be harder to cast at quad hybrid? Not enough to matter, I think?

The other two are very simple, but sort of cool to have as colorless creatures. It could make more sense to use the art from the official tokens on these.

I've had this idea kicking around in my head for a while, but I doubt I'll flesh out the artifact custom cube for them. Largely due to lack of art that fits the MTG artificer vibe.

Can someone help me with this update?

We have previously talked about this design.

Picture is old from MSE (Magic Set Editor) and not even using Card Conjurer (or friends) hence the blurry quality. I am making some updates to the card with the help of @blacksmithy . I would like to change the card to this:

Cylix of Creation (Set logo: March of the Machine (Because it's a multiverse set which makes the variety of tokens make sense))
T: Create a Treasure token.
1, T: Create a Blood or Food token.
2, T: Create a Clue token.
3, T: Create a Powerstone token.

No longer enters the battlefield tapped. Now also with Blood and Powerstone tokens. The name could be something else. Maybe something from Magic lore. Maybe something related to Omenpasses, just an idea. There might even be space for a short flavor text.

Any ideas for name, art and flavor text?

I think it's going to be very hard to find existing art that fits all five token types, but maybe Mohrbacher has something else in his angelarium that fits? His pieces are all relatively abstract, so you can interpret them in various ways. A lot of his works have alternate art, so when viewing these pages, make sure to look at all the art. No perfect fits, but some stuff that might be worth trying at least!

Maybe you could name it something like Statue of Creation?

PS original art for the Cylix is from here, by the way: https://www.angelarium.net/seraphim#/phanuel-angel-of-truth/

Would love to get thoughts on this idea for a Klothys-inspired Kruphix. Context is a pretty low curve, low-power cube looking to let UG do something other than tempo decks (Ana grid linked in sig), but I don't know if this is too strong? Very very open to other ideas.
Keep almost pulling the trigger on adding customs...

Depending on the cube, I can see 4/5 being to strong. Like I know you need 7 devotion but if this gets there you may just be looking at an unstoppable threat.

I'm sure this has been asked here a bunch of times but what process do y'all use to print high quality customs (i.e what do you use to make the customs and what do you use to print the proxies)? I've been thinking about biting the bullet and printing a bunch of these to use in my high power jumpstart cube, but I wanna make sure they look as nice as my other proxies and real cards.

Hmm, you're right. The link I posted *used* to be the best way to make it, but a little digging makes it clear that that was probably changed due to a copyright issue. Thanks for the catch!

When you print proxies remember to have a professional printing company do the job. You will notice the difference easily. They use more expensive printers and better paper.

The best way to do it is to hit up @blacksmithy who can help you with the design, the print etc.

I already did the same thing before my last comment lol.

Of all the things to go full custom on, snow simply isn't that deep. I do suggest anyone running snow themes proxies their snow cards to update the frames to the KLD ones that are a bit frosty.
I'm going so wildly off topic here that it felt wrong to post this in the WOE spoiler thread, but I was thinking a four color cube with red = deserts, blue = snow, and green and black = support for both. Featuring custom lands in the draft pool like...

And they can also follow directions! I started commissioning artwork for my D&D characters a few years ago, and AI art doesn't yet hold a candle to what human hands can paint!
Yet.

I had a similar idea for Desert, Snow, Sphere, Gate with land types, but ended up preferring something like white Theros, blue Mirrodin, black Innistrad, red Amonkhet/Deserts, and green Zendikar. Like 60% of cards in that color from that plane and like 20% each from the "allied" (mix your color pie) planes. Maybe there's better planes. It's also really restrictive because most new releases won't add anything, but that can be a benefit with how often they pump shit out these days.
