General Fighting Disappointment: Lets fix some cards that were almost sweet

The card i've always wanted to work was Pyrewild Shaman. In my cube i sharpied out the mana cost for recurring him and he's been fairly popular.

But she's just been kinda too awkward unless you are going through pains to make Goyf good or to cube a billion brainstorms. Or at least shes hard to get to work in the decks that want her and not interesting in the decks that have enough creature saturation to make her feel safe.

So I was thinking of adding this line of text

Whenever Quirion Dryad becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls you may draw a card.
I guess you could also just make it base 2/2 or god forbid 1/3.

High hopes, but one power is just so shitty. I wish he were a 2/2 or something. You know, actually playable. I've seen him come through exactly once, and that was with Wolfir Silverheart just buffing the hell out of him. It could have been any other creature in his position and it would have worked out just as well.

I actually disagree. He's been great for me, he's just not great in the kind of decks that want hellrider.

What about this card? I've always found it just a little below what I want out of a white 2 drop.
I think what I want here is like a dies trigger or something, rather than making it harder to kill.

I like it fine, people rely more and more on blocking with wizards putting them emphasis on small value creature combat. It does a lot to tell boarderland ranger it's useless for a turn against an aggro or tempo deck and it gives you another turn to wait to spend your mana against a creature if you have something more important to do. Putting a sanction on haste creatures is pretty neat too.

Yall ever tried to stabilize against that shit?

What do you really want out of white 1W creatures anyway? Most of what any of those idiots are gonna be doing is attacking and effecting combat sooooo...?

I think it'd be better, but Dryad is based around you only having one green card in your deck, which is not how most limited decks operate.

I want my 1W dudes to be decent beatdown/control dudes that synergize with as many of the following as possible:
-Spells
-Birthing Pod
-Goblin Bombardment

Basically I've kinda felt this dude was a C/C-, but he usually got cut for more on theme dudes.
(I've also felt that pod friendly 2 drops was a really short list)

An extort noble would be great for the control or spell velocity decks in your cube while being waaaay better for the non red aggro decks that you currently have.

Making all your spells fill out the curve better when you want them to while buying you more time is really supes cool

Maybe I'm explaining this badly, here's what I mean:
I love veteran armorer, but he's pretty shite. I was thinking, maybe some goblin bombardment synergy...
"When veteran armorer+ dies, creatures you control gain indestructible until end of turn."

He's now a little bit better, and like technically he could go in a pod deck, but that trigger isn't really what you're looking for. but if you've got bombardment or carrion feeder or whatever in play, now he's also Dauntless Escort, and on his own he's not really hurting anyone, since a control deck can easily play around that trigger when you don't have a sac outlet: it doesn't help with wrath, and if your deck is just mono doom blades, you just doom blade him first (or last, depending on how many doom blades you're casting this turn )

Hey, WotC doesn't allow themselves to print lands that are "strictly better" than basic lands but tiders don't necessarily have to follow that rule?

Anyway I was looking at cheap lands recently and what if the Abandoned Outpost cycle didn't enter play tapped? Would people be interested in picking it? Would it enable decks that tiders approve of, or would it lead to naughty decks that we frown upon around here?

I doubt it. I was contemplating some version of the vivid lands that would enter untapped, but only have one charge counter, which would probably be better for general purposes. Those lands were mostly because Oddessy was all about filling your graveyard, and worm harvest aside, the sheer number isn't usually that relavant

Interesting. This seems like a super solid fixing cycle for a 2 color/2 color + splash format, or a weaker cycle in a 3 color one (like 5/6/5 basics wise, khans style)

The other totally unintentional thing is that it probably encourages picking gold cards that include your main color(s), which tiders frequently describe as "wheeling all day". It makes black mana every turn if you're just chain casting your eight Chief of the Edges and Chief of the Scales.

Not sure if you're looking for an alter for an article or for something to print, in which case it's better to use alternate art (because a lot of people play cards they recognize by art as the original, even though the text was tweaked). I can do both though, here you go
