FlowerSunRain's Cube

Small changes made. Running Shimmering Wings as written for now, we'll see how good constellation is. If its really good, I could put Cage of Hands into white (but seriously, probably not).

Right now black's kit is getting overloaded, I've got to mull over how to focus it down.

Mana Bloom is probably getting a trial run, Hero of Leina Tower is probably the victim. Synergy can only go so far, being garbage unfortunately counts for something.

I want to add one or two disruptive cards to black, likely Blackmail and/or Choking Sands. Small Pox may get another run.

If choking sands goes in, Molten Rain probably becomes Tuk-Tuk, the Explorer.

With Engineered Explosives gone, Trading post seems a little loose (still have ratchet bomb and needle, though). Might want to tinker it back in somehow.

I am considering using zombie<>vampire transparency. I already have a few "honorary vampires", so it might be overkill. I love Kalastria Highborn, but is looping gravecrawler with her too easy? Vamp theme might need to die, though I like the +1/+1 crossover from blade of the bloodchief.

Armory of Iroas sucks as much as I think it does, right?

I'm thinking about adding a Heroic theme to my cube, and I'm curious as to which cards have had strongest/most fun impact for you. I don't plan to go as deep into the theme as you've gone, at least not to begin with (that is, I'm not going for an enchantment theme specifically, just Heroic to get combat tricks back into cube).

How have the Proliferate cards been?

On Choking Sands: I'm guessing you already considered Icequake, Rain of Tears, Rancid Earth and Befoul. The "non-swamp" clause seems like it could be bothersome.

EDIT: Incremental Growth seems like it would be strong.

Fabled Hero, Hero of Iroas and Favored Hoplite have been super rock solid and high impact as one might expect. They are really aggressive and help put away games in a hurry. Favored Hoplite in particular seems crappy, but then you trigger him twice and he's a 1 mana 3/4 popping ordeals instantly, its strong. I'm guessing Wingsteed Rider would also be pretty decent if you needed another drop. The 1/1 flier is passable and two of the new ones (0/4 dude and priest) are solid, though adding 0/4 creatures has its flaws. White is the go-to primary color for heroic theme.

Artisan of Forms kind of sucked. Not having pressure on its own is bad for a deck that limits the number of creatures it plays. Tritan Fortune Hunter and Wavecrash Titan are playable, but they are 3 mana blue cards, so, yeah, just cast your unstable mutation on one of the amazing 3 mana blue creatures and you'll be fine. The ones from the new set seem passable, but not exciting. I'm trying Sage of Hours and Battlefield Thaumaturge for giggles.

Hero of Leina Tower was a letdown. Green really doesn't have a single decent heroic card.

Agent of the Fates gets killed the second he hits the table every damn time, therefore he must be amazing! Tormented Hero is solid, tick damage on an aggro drop is deceptively good. Ashoik's Adept is playable. Bloodcrazed Hoplite is pretty nice when you also run a +1/+1 counter theme and probably passable without one. Black also has the best set of bestow creatures to support a theme with.

Arena Athlete seemed good when I played it, will probably get another run. Stunning blockers when he attacks made him deceptively evasive. Compared favorably to goblin shortcutter. Akroan Crusader is fun to build around. I'm running satyr hoplite with "haste" sharpied on it and expect it to be decent.

Anax and Cymede and Battlewise Hoplite are both really fun, but you know how gold slots are. It depends how hard you want to push it.

Livewire Lash is a nice piece of "heroic" equipment.

I think your best angles for a minor theme is to play the good white dudes as the "core", then add one tie in card for each color and sprinkle a few combat tricks and the best of the bestow dudes all around. Add in a couple of "honorary heroic" guys (double strike, hexproof) and you've got something going.

White/Blue has been the best heroic deck so far, mixing the good white heroic dudes with blue disruption (and ordeal of thasa is so fucking good), but if you want to isolate a "heroic theme" White/Red heroic/double strike has the most intrinsic synergy while Black/White probably has the best card pool.

Proliferate has been fun. I only have the two cards, so its a sweet treat when it hits. I wouldn't go all in on it as a theme or anything, but with the ridiculous amount of +1/+1 counter giving cards I run, it works out naturally.

I think choking sands the best choice. With the separate non-basic land draft, it basically always has a target, although it is a hilarious nonbo with Urborg.

Notes to Self:

Fit in Impending Disaster and maybe Arena Athlete.

Consider the sweet phantom tech discussed in the other thread.

Consider Thasa again.

Reverent Hunter, Ajani's Pridemate, Young Pyromancer as double picks?

You've got your grixis color things that play card draw, card filtering, removal, sweepers, counters, stall creatures and fat finishers.

You've got green based ramp things that just go over the top of whatever the other deck is doing.

You've got value engine decks that grind down the opponent.

I'm hoping that a reactive enchantress deck is possible now as well.

Some of these things might not sound like "control", but within the context of my cube, they're control

I counted. I only have 5 spirits in white (and that counts swapping the unicorn for the spirit version) and a smattering in the other colors. Even if I assign cards like Spectral Procession and soltari trooper a "spirit" type, I don't think there are enough to support it.

I know, I've been keeping an eye on the number if playable spirits generally and I think it will be a while before we have enough incidental spirits to make tallowisp good unfortunately.
