Yeah, given that flipping isn't a guarantee - I'd wager that for games where these five are resolved, there will be more games where they stay on their creature side than games where they transform over to planeswalker - a lot of their value comes from how good their front side is in your environment. Maybe it's because I have an unnatural attachment for Merfolk Looter and looting-type cards that the newest Jace has got me in a tizzy.

For the same reason, I couldn't be less excited about the new Chandra. She's not a Gelectrode, people - she can't target creatures! Her ability is closer to Goblin Fireslinger than anything else, a card that no one is seriously considering cubing.

Just to note, the ability on Jace says "until your next turn", so the pump can potentially be used defensively.

even if Jace were 'just' a Snapcaster Mage; have you played Snapcaster before?! Granted this effect is a lot worse because you can't hit countermagic and the like, but even just playing a Wrath with the threat of flashing it back next turn is great

Gideon's what I've been most curious about all this time- he's gotten a recent story revamp, and we all know he'll become a dude, but white's pie is very wide and Gideon's "other" abilities haven't become as set-in-stone as ajani, liliana, elspeth, etc.

I really like the "make a legendary creature token" concept on Nissa. It seems like a natural way to curb the issue of planeswalkers making way too many tokens.

These were found by someone trying to sell 3 SDCC promos....when SDCC hadn't happened. I'm also a little dubious of this chandra matching the previous chandra, who's copyright credit was '14 on the one side and '15 on the other.

If Nissa cost 7 mana for just her planeswalker side she'd be unplayable, Borderland Ranger that fetches basic Forest only is pretty much unplayable.

Jace seems insanely pushed again.

Chandra is pretty one-dimensional.

One of the two new mechanics revealed! This one is a pretty easy trigger, keep an eye out!

Spell Mastery looks like an auto-include mechanic in cube. Assuming we get a cubeable card of course. Ravaging Blaze is not doing it for me though.

WTF at Gideon. A strictly better savanna lions that transforms into a 4/4 that dodges most removal? YES PLS.

I mean, yeah, your opponent could try to attack and kill him, but if you're playing an aggro deck that's probably not going to work out well for them.

Even if you get stuck on the defensive he's not terrible. Just trade him off by blocking or if it's late game brick wall some big dumb creature for as long as you can keep 3 mana open.

Yeah. I don't get why this is so pushed. A 2/1 for 1 that can be made indestructible (already super good) AND turns into a really solid planeswalker (without too much trouble in this color combination and at no additional mana cost)?
