General stock cube biases

I will also back up the awesomness of Jinxed Idol. I'm considering Mogis as a grindy predominatly black card, that can randomly attack for 7.

I'm resurfacing this thread.

I know I'm slow in this one. Someone once said (paraphrased) "I'd rather have my nuts slammed in a car door then have someone tell me Immolating Souleater is a 810 staple."

The whole concept that if your cube is bigger, your design doesn't matter is just dumb. If the cards don't work together, they don't work together regardless of how many cards are in the pile. If a card is worth running, its worth running at 360 or 9000 if the design is right.

I remember seeing on a cube set review someone criticized commenting (paraphrased)
"360 vs 720 is a better metric for set review than whether the card makes it into Powered / Unpowered."

it got a million likes and I was just dumbfounded. Powered / Unpowered are one of the few basic design variations these people willingly accept and all these mooks can't imagine the idea that someone designing a powered format might be making an entirely different animal than the unpowered one? They really just want someone to tell them if it's better than the current 4 or 8 cards in the colour/cost slot. Nuts!

I like to think participating in this forum helps, let's check!

not breaking singleton: cured
not enough fixing / control-oriented fixing: cured, mostly (in part because of the utility land draft)
failure to proxy: cured
poison principle: cured, mostly (artifacts are still a somewhat poisony theme though)
uninteractive mechanics (protection, hexproof): started without hexproof and very few protection cards, cut Mother of Runes for Doomed Traveler last Saturday

Yeah. That makes no sense at all. You'll run Elvish Mystic, Llanowar Elves, and Fyndhorn Elves - all identical cards in everything except name - but suggesting you run 4 gravecrawlers is somehow not acceptable? What? A couple guys were going so far as to say that anyone running multiples wasn't cubing - they were running a custom format entirely so different that calling it a cube would cause confusion. These same guys running three functional copies of Llanowar elves mind you (who would happily run a functional reprint of gravecrawler if it was printed). Hypocrisy at its finest.

I would like to take a moment to suggest we change our "custom draft format" name from Cube to something else that really puts a bat of needles up their collective asses. It also should probably sound bad ass. Since it is a personal favorite film of mine, I'm gonna go ahead and say we should call our format Hypercube.
