The most fiddly thing about Indonesia was the routes. Routes are easier to do in 18XX because you are only paying one person and finding the ideal route isn't mandatory. I never played 5 player Indonesia, but I imagine its a form of torture. Its harrd to exactly compare them, but when I played...

    General Vampire Madness Aggro

If your going to run vampires and are thinking Reckless wurm, why not incorrigible youths? I don't think vampires as a theme have weight and I don't think you should try to hang a theme on a one toughness aggro creature. That said, I do like madness as a subtheme and there are plenty of...

    1) Poker chips. No excuses for this one. 2) Calculators, paper, and pencil for everyone. Or a spreadsheet on your tablet if you are so inclined. 3) Do no take your first game seriously at all. You are going to make some rules mistakes (probably with share limits, but also possibly with...

Well, maybe I'm bad at looking, but I can't find a decent comparable to insult, nevermind a decent comparable to insult that also throws in a flashback burn spell. The card could well turn out to suck simply because its niche sucks, but I'm not sure how it isn't pushed way further then any...

    Sets Amonkhet (AKH) Spoilers

This card is insanely pushed. I was looking for a new flashback burn spell, but I'm not sure I want it attached to this thing. It looks like one of those situational cards that ends up sucking 9/10 times you draw it, but is it? It works on everything (other then things that trigger on your...

Yeah, its a narrow niche, but its unique. I still keep it in my rotation. It should have +buy though, that would easily double the number of games it gets taken.

They each take out 6 cards and give you 7 new ones. Had it been me I would have kept coppersmith and taken out torturer instead, but otherwise they definitely make the game better, even if a few of them aren't inspiring designs.

Generally people refer to an engine as a deck with the goal of drawing all of its card every turn. Gardens/Workshop/Village does the exact opposite of this: it bloats the deck and attempts to play as many workshops as possible through virtue of sheer redundancy. An engine doesn't need...

Magic's inelegance is very frustrating. If it came out in 2017 it would be inexcusable. But it came out in 1993. Have you seen what games were coming out in 1993? Here's BBG's list...

I ran Lightning Rift with the "or discard a card" text for a while as an "always wheels" incentive for red based control, but the support was iffy and it was usually just 15th pick trash. That said, its easier to support this effect in blue and the cumulative effect on this makes it a legit...

    General The Draft Exchange

I really wish more people understood this. Hell, I wish I wasn't a hypocrite about it. There is so much room to make qualitative improvements through incremental refinement, but people rarely want to do it because its hard, boring, and/or unappreciated.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to think about that situation. My gut says "run both", but there are a lot of interesting things going on at that casting cost so I'm not sure if that's feasible. I've been playing This guy at 1R with the trigger switched to dies to put an on theme card in the two slot...

It won't happen in my cube, but I'm quite happy that somewhere Jace the Mindsculptor will be getting run over by a train.

Veteran Motorist is quite a card. Now that every single 2 cost beater has 3 power, there is a minor conundrum in that blockers need to have 4 toughness which is turn means 3 damage no longer is good enough for "clear the way" removal. I've already been attempting to deal with this by using...

The more focus there is on creatures, the better. Creature combat is the "boardplay" of magic. If a game is going to have a major mechanic, participating in it shouldn't be optional, particularly since in Magic cards have specific purposes and you have to pick them before the game begins. Its...

    10 artifacts is 71%. My math: 10/39 = 25.6% 10/38 * 74.4% = 19.6% 10/37 * 54.8% = 14.8% 10/36 * 40.0% = 11.1%

How do you feel about 3 power 1 drops? I'm not enthralled with the ones that don't require additional mana. They make Kird Ape feel bad. This guy seems situational enough that it might be ok. Strengthens Ancient Den out of the ULD. Benefits from stuff you'd run anyway in aggro like equips and...

I like Cloudblazer. Its a nice cog that does something desirable and it doesn't have any real baggage. I could see not wanting the effect (I personally have no use for it), but its a very clean way to get that effect if you do want it.

If you have a 1/1 creature it does. Vehicles are pretty cool, but they don't scale with the size of the "equipped" creature.
