General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

I love decks that can adapt into different roles depending on who they are playing. That looks like a great example of the species.

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

Daxos's torment is good, but black has plenty of oversized flying creatures with caveats (Persecutor, Desecration, Tombstalker) that I wouldn't call it a draw too enchantments. If you already have an enchantment theme, run it, but it isn't an exciting payoff card by itself.

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

Starfield of Nyx had been nothing but fantastic for me. I also play Replenish and Argothian Enchantress, but those are marginal/deep includes. For customs, I run buffed versions of a couple of the constellation creatures. Oakheart Dryads as a 2/2 that gives out +1/+1 counters. Has been a...

That planeswalker seems insane. I guess the school of thought on "planeswalker that doesn't protect itself" is like "creature that doesn't have ETB/dies triggers" in that they need to be backbreakingly powerful to account for the risk of dying to efficient removal. This card is almost demonic...

    General Fight Club

I can't remember ever playing a game where I wanted to tap a vivid for mana and couldn't because I ran out of counters. I'm not 100% sure I'd take an off-color vivid over the coliseum, but I think there's a strong argument for it. They only thing Coliseum has going for it as tapping for...

General Emotional Spikes in Cube Design

The thrill for me comes from the both the conversation with the opponent via the game mechanics and the battle with my own limitations as I struggle to unravel the language of the game itself. Sure, I get cheap kicks like everyone else when something cool happens due to randomness, but those...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Kateso breaks stalls about beautifully, but blue is already pretty good at that. The card is playable for sure, but I'm not guessing the demand is going to be pretty low because there are lots of other cards that can fill that role and it doesn't really solve any "problems" for green/blue. In...

Seal of Doom is a pretty good card. Even decks that don't care that its an enchantment find good use for it. Being able to prepay it sets up boardstates where you can tap out for things that would normally leave you exposed to game-losing plays. Obviously costing three is a real drawback, but...

The devil seems good. In a deck filled with force spikes and silent departures you can disrupt your opponent like crazy, then recoup your ammo and get a threat all in one. Or you can play in a deck that doesn't care if it discards certain cards its an efficient way to chuck them.

    Card/Deck Madness Theme

I've been running ruinator for years, except for the two weeks when he got eaten by the vacuum and I had to get a new one. That card is completely legit. Just run it straight in decks that throw things out incidentally. You don't need unearth, pod, or huge creature counts, just a deck that...

Grim Flayer directly competes with my all star Lotleth Troll, so I'm conflicted. On the one hand, I'm interested in adding a few delirium cards, but on the other the troll has an important creature type, makes +1/+1 counters and chucks away creatures for random green/black stuff. Overall, I'd...

Arbor Colossus is just the bomb for stopping power, but is soft to removal. I guess you gotta look at your green section carefully and consider what you need. I think big beefy dies to removal cards are fine, but they sort of indirectly "help aggro" because aggro just needs to have the removal...

This is a lot of body for 5 mana. It also isn't easymode like Cloudgoat Ranger, which is cool. I'm not sure if this is exactly where I want to be at green 5, but it does something a little different then the other options.

I always thought the Eldrazi were lame, so a lot of these cards seem cool mechanically, but I'd kind of feel like a tool running them. The worst offender is lone rider. This could have been a strait up headless horseman reference and it would have been my kind of card, but for some reason its...

    General Mana Base Brainstorm Thread

Ahada is definitely making a relevant point here. Case in point: the chance to draw your one of in a 60 card deck is 12%. Let's go with the 7 sources 5% fail rate. This means that when you draw the splash card you want have the mana source in your had ~5/12 or ~42% of the time. The 88% of the...
