General Elegance in cube card selection

I saw this article on puremtgo that I thought was pretty interesting, and got me thinking what makes for healthy complexity. He lists out the top 10 most spike cards (as he sees it) but what was interesting to me was how a lot of the cards on the list are cards we really seem to either...

    General Fight Club

The fact that most cubes struggle to kill enchantments, and it just kind of sits there and wins the game, is why it would be considered broken. Sure, its not treachery broken, but its not unreasonable to hate the card; losing to any kind of powerful enchantment is always a miserable experience.

General Elegance in cube card selection

Here is another example of inelegant inclusion, depending on the format/players Birthing Pod It takes up 2-3 slots in your green section, some players/playgroups will never touch it due to card AND drafting complexity, and in formats without ETB density moving up a curve, its terrible.

One Pack One Pick (p1p1 thread)

I've debated trying glimmerpoint stag. Some of these cards just get so iconic though: i'm still lamenting the loss of lumberknot.

Alfonso, thats an incredible find. The perfect card to both find them, but it can also be sacrificed to pay the emerge cost.

Sets Innistrad multi-block draft mechanics for Cube

At 360, three copies of BV should be fine. The real challenge is in breaking singleton on red and blue fb cards.

General Elegance in cube card selection

I included prowler originally as a discard outlet, but its been largely used as a tempo beater in a ub flyers style deck. That style deck is pretty absurd, because not only does it get a cheap effective flying beater in black, but it gets to select from the full gambit of blue tempo tools, as...

Sets Innistrad multi-block draft mechanics for Cube

If you are doing a larger format, you will have to break singleton aggressively. There just isn't a density of reasonable flashback cards to support burning vengeance otherwise.

Thats not what I'm asking; but I can understand, it does look kind of like the fight club thread :p

In terms of elegance...how do we feel about flip cards? Say prowler vs heir: Oona's prowler heir of falkenrath

General Elegance in cube card selection

I feel like morph is particularly inelegant as an isolated keyword, because every time you play out the morph, there is that awkward moment where you think "what is that crea---oh yeah, its the one morph in the cube" which just feels inelegant in the most base sense of the definition. Than...

General Elegance in cube card selection

Can I get some opinions? Is it inelegant design to include exalted angel as your only morph card?

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Its pretty good with bouncelands, making it easy for control to gain mana superiority. I think its main issue is that it hits a power ceiling pretty quickly, but than so do all of these raise dead cards.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Harvest is a pure control card that you use in the lategame with a built up mana base, whose floor is raise dead. As long as you have decks that can play toward both that ceiling, and that floor is reasonable, its a good card. I left k command and genesis out because they are different cards...

General Elegance in cube card selection

These are two cards I dislike running because of the tank time. sensei's divining top gifts ungiven Brainstorm hasn't been a problem at all in terms of tank time, though the card is grossly overrated in formats without heavy fetchland density. Ponder is the hardest to play though i.m.o...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

The reason you run raise dead effects in a deck is to overwhelm a control deck's removal, not as an actual draw spell. They are extremely potent in that role, though higher power formats probably generally want actual animate dead effects just to keep pace. Or maybe something like that...

I don't know if its too strong, just right, or too weak, but I can see where playable lava axe could annoy people regardless.

    General The Draft Exchange

After they printed that confluence cycle I'm pretty sceptical about cubing EDH printed cards. I realize some of them are cube worthy, but multi player formats in general are much more tolerant of overly pushed effects due to their structure, and a lot of these cards are just GRBS.
