General Elegance in cube card selection

Temporal Isolation is an interesting example. Not only is it more wordy, but it includes a keyword that is generally just going to be a convoluted and confusing way to say "this creature can't attack or block."

General Elegance in cube card selection

To kind of link two topics together, we recently had an interesting discussion on this card starting here: viridian emissary I know this is a topic that can kind of bounce all over the place. When you look at the cards in your cube nearly every single one of them is covered with texts and...

Card/Deck Balance: Reasonably Efficient Non-Etb Creatures?

Sigh are you still in the game? Do we need to air drop in food and water?

I think if you are encouraging those sorts of DS style aggro-combo decks, this could be nice. There aren't a lot of reasonable sorcery speed DS effects, and like i've written about extensively in the past, the instant speed variety leads to a lot of feel bad random blow outs, that punish an...

Berserker's Onslaught is more of an alpha strike card though for a midrange deck. BM straddles the line better between aggro and midrange, and looks like a different take on assault strobe, which is a niche that needs filling.

BM looks pretty sick. Non-instant speed DS but makes up for it by sticking around. Really neat form of reach. Also sick in a haste midrange build.

VE and PD both have the same problem, that you can't actively trigger the land search effect if you want it. I don't like either card, and much prefer SKE as its a design that clearly signels its a cantripping life gain card, and has none of the triggering issues VE or PD have. I ran VE for a...

    Card/Deck The Simic Combine

These are probably my favorite simic cards higher power mystic snake become immense vines of vastwood wolfir silverheart lower power vines of vastwood become immense wonder mistfire adept I have a feeling this guy is going to be real good in this combination for higher power...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I can vouch for ribbons of night being a great card. It has a power level ceiling of course, but where its playable its very good, and feels like a lower power cruel ultimatum. I ended up cutting it during a balancing patch (my black removal was too strong), and on account that it was a de...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Making an opponent reinvest 5-6 mana over the course of multiple turns to recast the same threat is often times much better than simply doom blading it when you have pressure on the ground. Having access to a completely unconditional and undercosted answer is immensely strong, even if its only...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I've had similar thoughts over the last couple of months. It basically makes any creature with CC over 3 feel like a potential game losing play if it lacks an ETB. It feels almost like you need the ETB as bounce defense sometimes. That and when you think about it, being able to answer any...

It reminds me a little bit of burning vengeance in a weird way. The problem with it though is that in an actual control shell you generally don't want to discard your hand, even if you get to AR immediately after. This set is such gas though for gy design.

I think its more of a jund card tbh. Those decks are already running tol, gy for value interactions, and can chain removal for the cost reduction, all while playing a slow game. Its prob not good enough for standard cube design, but it would be sweet in a hellbent focused grindy midrange deck...

If you have a discard for value theme that card is very good.

    Card/Deck The Simic Combine

If you have to get a major component from a third color, its a wedge or shard identity. A big part of UG's guild identity is that its limited to soft removal.

    Card/Deck The Simic Combine

Are those decks coming together though as pure simic decks? Over here, its very good at ramping as well due to blue and green untap effects on bouncelands, but it always runs red for removal.

    Card/Deck The Simic Combine

I don't know, I think the combination is fine. You either have a sort of flash flyers archetype that wants to operate at instant speed, or a sort of simic stompy deck that wants to aggressively push through/protect big green dudes with buffs. Whatever its doing just has to revolve around...

Its not that black is bad, its just no where near as good at producing combat triggers as blue, which is what this card is about. Blue is amazing at both protecting individual threats via soft counters, or sneaking threats in for combat triggers via evasion granting effects (flying/unblockable...

Grim Flayer is a great card, but your format has to be ok with creatures that are non-ETB or lack an immediate activated ability. It is a bit awkward as a {G}{B} card, as it would be really well positioned as a simic card. Simic could do both a great job forcing it through, protecting it, and...
