General [Lucky Paper] Cube Power Level: A Users' Guide

It's a theoretical upside, but I don't know how real it is in practice. As a curator of a lower powel level, I have a theoretical larger selection of cards that fit in my power band, I also don't make as strict requirements for the power level of my inclusions, which is a level of analysis I...

General [Lucky Paper] Cube Power Level: A Users' Guide

The point is that if you don't want to change your cube all that often, you can just elect not to do it. Being forced into it out of necessity doesn't provide you any benefit, it just removes the option to do otherwise.

General [Lucky Paper] Cube Power Level: A Users' Guide

I'm pretty sure the pyramid is a rhombus, making a cube at the nadir of power level also gives you a very narrow set of cards to play with. Both extremes rely on power outliers. Some of the advantages presented for higher power don't make a lot of sense to me. You can model it after competitive...

    The Greater Aurora

Recruit is a mechanic I have been thinking about for a good while now. Name needs some refinement, but it's largely copy-pasted from the Eternal market mechanic. In draft, it does a few things that intrigue me. It increases the relevance of all your picks as your sideboard becomes much more...

    The Greater Aurora

I wanted to explore this at least a little. Part of my struggle with the day/night cards was coming up with cards that were desirable enough to play in decks where you couldn't rely on it being a core part of your strategy, and on creatures you use a lot of the word and complexity budget by...

    The Greater Aurora

I am becoming disillusioned with Day/Night as a mechanic and considering if I should focus on just making Shadowmoor/Eventide. My main cube already tries to play into the game-sequencing aspect of magic to the extent that wotc lets me, so it's possible I should just forget it here so I could...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

It's just as fast as Pentad Prism unless you need both counters on the turn you play it, which happens pretty rarely. I think the original card is reasonably powerful, but not in a way that can be taken advantage of in most cubes.

blame companies, not consumers Student certainly has a lot better of a floor than Shadow. I'm trying out Shadow primarily because I wanted more blue 1-drops and you can get it with Ranger of Eos.

    The Greater Aurora

Probably going to be a case by case basis. For now I'm partially just being lazy, but I want to retain as much of the flavor of the set as I can, so if I can get away with doing so I'll probably do so.

    The Greater Aurora

Brainstorming some tribal cards. The rarity on these is largely arbitrary, but depending on the structure the rares will go on occasionals and commons for cards that are always in the pool. Doing this has me wondering if its possible to enable more spell-heavy decks with minor tribal themes...

    The Greater Aurora

So for a while now I've been thinking about making a cube entirely out of custom cards. YmtC is a hobby that has occupied my life for 14 years now, and I'd like to translate it into something tangible. Very recently I got the idea, somewhat inspired by a post I saw, to make a cube using the...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Seems like a card that could be good, but I'd rather it be bad.

They look very similar, but at the same time it's also a lot easier to distinguish the colors they produce.

    General Alchemy

I don't know how to feel about Alchemy-exclusive versions of existing cards. On one hand, I kind of want to use them. Esika's Chariot is a massive stat-monster that is probably too egregious for my format, but I really like the artifact/etb/token crossover synergy it has, and the nerfed versions...

General Weekly Fun Q: What is your most expensive card?

I pulled a forest from a booster the other day and I'm not selling it for any less than like fifty billion dollars. serious answer idk I think like Time Spiral or Yavimaya Hollow or some other semi-afforable reserve-list card.

    General Fight Club

I would give it to Tanuki personally specifically because I like that you don't get both. Other bonuses include instant speed, hitting the graveyard and being an enchantment. Beanstalk is the more powerful of the two though, it even gets you the land untapped which is pretty huge.

    Sequence Cube

To be fair, while I do try to make card-interactions "the best thing", it's also true that I've tried to emphasize playing at instant speed, so it's somewhat natural that you would be able to make a pretty conventional-looking Ux control deck, and I appreciate someone taking the time to tell me...
