Yeah, I think birds of paradise is fine to run: the evasion is nice with late game counter makers like gavony township etc. Its more running a bunch of llanowar elves clones that was a misstep on my part i.m.o. I really should have been more selective, but live and learn. I also think we have...

Jeskai sage This guy is pretty good when you run him with damage on the stack and perilous research

One thing that I left out of my analysis was that one of the reasons I disliked the elves, was that there was a density issue with them. Because so many of them are bad top decks, I wanted to have a mass of them in the draft to facilitate those t1->t2 plays where you ramp into a 3 drop. This...

    General Fight Club

Here is my take on rampers from over the course of three cubes trying to balance midrange archetypes: 1. Spell Based Ramp: Completly non-interactive in cube due to a lack of counters, discard, and land destruction. Despite being a terrible top deck, the ability to essentially cast a...

The most important question about wall of roots is how you win between turns with it. ;)

The main appeal of fertile ground is that you don't need a forest for it, which can be a big deal if you aren't running shocks, or abu lands. It can be played with less of a forest commitment, and comes out more consistently as a result. It will be interesting to see how the strenghs of sprawl...

I think for flame jab or molten vortex you would be looking for a deck that can generate a lot of prison-like inevitability: sort of like lands in legacy or tortured existence/jund loam in pauper. If you are going that deep, I think I like molten vortex better, though flame jab is a nice support...

    Card/Deck +1/+1 Counters

Volt charge is great, but the theme needed more support to flesh it out in red. Red wanted to be very aggro, but most of the bloodlust creatures were terrible (or were more midrangy) and I didn't really like the unleash options. What did you have in mind? I have to admit Exava is intriquing--I...

    Card/Deck +1/+1 Counters

I've been running that tribe for a while now. I would describe it as a tier 2 deck over here in terms of popularity (though thats perhaps unfair to it in terms of potential). Decks like that really want to have tools to protect their board state as the easiest way to beat them is to just pick...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

ROE was a set with strong removal but its strength was conditionally dependent upon the threat it was matched up against. This is a big part of why ROE was as strategically deep as it was, in that there were actual metagame relationships between threats and answers: Some removal spells are...

Card/Deck Creatures With Neutral Card Economy

I was thinking of it from the perspective of a low curve aggro deck, running say 14-15 lands. Those decks really don't need more than 2-3 mana to operate, and are best as 2 color decks. Knight of the white orchid is a relevant body, color fixes, thins, and puts the deck up to three mana...

General That awkward moment. . .

I would just ask him more questions first. In a vacuum, I would introduce him to pauper, as the simple mana bases and price makes it somewhat less intimidating, but there is still enough depth to hold ones attention. Either that or invite him to draft origins. Its hard to say without...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I think in a slower, more card advantage focused format, thats going to be a strong card, as you can blank a removal spell while adding 2 power to the board. In a faster more tempo focused format, I don't think you're going to have time to be using your mana as inefficently as whitemane lion...

Card/Deck Creatures With Neutral Card Economy

How about as a 2/1? The important thing is that it has the extra power to actually trade with things consistantly. I really like phyrexian rager, but that card isn't really cubeable for most people.

Card/Deck Creatures With Neutral Card Economy

Thats way to expensive, but a cute design. I didn't even know the card existed. I'm thinking more a 2/2 for 2 with cantrip effect attached. Of course, than again, a lot of people here like coiling oracle, so maybe the 1/1 body isn't as bad as i'm making it out to be?

Card/Deck Creatures With Neutral Card Economy

Yeah, its the creature type that makes elvish visionary good, combined with the redraw. I don't even run it in the penny cube. If it were a 2/2, however, I would run it in a heartbeat.
