General Re-examining The Basic Land Box

I finally put the money down for modern and have been just jamming grixis delver for the past couple days (as part of my slow climb up to legacy delver), really enjoying sequencing fetchlands, shock lands, and check lands. Its also occured to me that this type of sequencing would be very...

While I'm glad that the hyperbolic comparison between ancestral recall and dig through time has had such a response, I don't think the conditions really exist in most of our cubes where treasure cruise would be strictly better than dig through time. We all run good mana, and most of our...

General Re-examining The Basic Land Box

Could we talk a little bit more about specific metagame relationships in legacy and how to translate them over to cube? The penny cube is structured on a lot of pauper metagame relationships, and though I've been too busy/lazy to write an article about how that structure works, I think...

I've conceded the AR point is not worth pursuing. The problem with demonic tutor isn't that tutoring isn't powerful, its that sorcery speed tutoring is kind of mediocre in cube. When I suddenly need either 6 mana or two turns to cast the wrath of god I tutored for, thats a big problem. Its one...

The ability to select the cards you need, at instant speed, in a largely singleton format just seems ridiculously good to the point where no other commonly run draw spell comes close. It just seems to have a lot more game winning potential on its own. I think its better than treasure cruise...

Thats true--it does help set you up for your dig. But seriously, even in vintage I wonder if recall is better than DTT at this point, what with so many mental missteps floating around.

Is firing off an early recall actually that good in cube though? DTT's ability to draw-double tutor in a singleton environment seems insane.

Are you sure your median cruise was 1 mana?

I think at this point DTT is probably the strongest blue cube draw spell. I'm not sure ancestral recall is stronger than it in cube /controversy

I briefly cut gush after making that post and than added it back in. With decks in the penny cube running 15 lands standard (due to bouncelands), and going down to 13-14 if they think they can get away with it, this actually seems like a good gush environment. Its another very complex card...

I should probably let go of running gush in cube, and run fact or fiction instead, but I just really love the complexity behind gush.

    MoshiMaro's Cube (540 Singleton - Unpowered)

Sorry, I've been meaning to post. Check out these two articles, they should help shed some light on why aggro is not popular in your cube, and how you can address it. As a matter of course, I would encourage you to think less in terms of "what does my red section do" and more dynamically in...

I always end up cutting fact or fiction, which I kind of regret. The other benefit of it is that it feeds the graveyard, so it actually pairs quite nicely alongside treasure cruise and dig through time. I should probably just not be running compulsive research, but I feel like that one mana is...

Card/Deck What human tribal incentives do you run?

If you can run champion of the parish into gather the townsfolk its a pretty legit aggro opening. Angelic overseer is another incentive card.

I felt it was a pretty justified after having to endure that bernie sanders joke and ridiculous wind-scarred crag, battlefield forge analogy. Plus there is this new matter of a guy fieri reference. Not sure if I can forgive that.

I can see that. I have about 20 bouncelands in the penny cube so that "stuck on two lands" ponder I don't think is really an issue for us. In the scenario of searching for a specific card, I still prefer ponder because it gives you more bites at the apple, but I can see where you are coming from...

Ok, thats more reasonable. I'll admit my background with ponder comes mostly from delver. That deck tends to run 17 lands, and its common to keep 1 landers, or otherwise somewhat flawed lands, on the basis that with x4 ponder and x4 preordain, you can find whatever your missing piece is. I...

We really don't have mono colored decks here, so for us its not really an issue. I know you like devotion and other mechanics that push people towards mono colored, so it would probably be a poor choice for you.
