Card/Deck Start your Engines: A Temur Card Advantage Deck

I agree that the card requires some work to fit into an environment. It can be run in virtually any red-heavy deck, but it's stock goes way up with an archetype surrounding it. I think one major problem is people try to put it into decks that want to speed the game up. It's 100% better in...

Oh yeah totally agree it's got some design issues. Even just creating a Penumbra Squid would be better imo. Still a powerful and relatively unique blue effect, so I've been happy to keep it thus far.

General Rivals of Ixalan (RIX) Spoilers

Lol that Elder Dinosaur seems like the most win more card ever, right? Ahead on board? Be even MORE ahead on board for cheap! Like, this is the most ridiculous Aggro card ever? Curve out one mana 2/1, two mana 3/2, three mana 3/2, and you can drop him on curve T4?

Card/Deck Start your Engines: A Temur Card Advantage Deck

Vortex is very much a card. It's one of the crucial pieces for the deck/land engine. I've found it to worthy even with just a Crucible of Worlds effect, which limits how often it can be activated compared to loam. Edit: I realize the enchantment digging effect I might actually want vessel of...

Card/Deck Start your Engines: A Temur Card Advantage Deck

Necroing for recent interest in relevent cards. I recently included Seismic assault, and it's been an overdue inclusion tbh. It's just such a straightforward and powerful piece of the lands engine deck. Because it's {R}{R}{R} I'm trying to think of some ways to handle that. The first that...

    General The Draft Exchange

Thanks for the draft and the kind words, Safra! :). This deck looks sweet and is absolutely one of my favorite decks (I ran this archetype in my last IRL draft!). I'm wondering if Stoneforge Mystic has a place in my format once again, as I don't run any super oppressive equips anymore, except...

Nice post(s) RBM! I've basically stopped using the roshambo and just call decks 'fast-game' and 'long-game'. besides 'midrange' nearing t***o levels of abstractness, I feel agro is often conflated with 'sligh' (https://mtg.gamepedia.com/Sligh ... It's word for word what 'agro' is generally...

Yeah I'd say I agree basically all around on your arguments for the Coatl. If the format is high powered enough for Chasm Skulker, that seems even better, but the Coatl is great in lower power. I believe Grillo runs it, and maybe RBM too, in their lower powered formats.

    General The Draft Exchange

Drafted Shamimrazad! Ended up in one of my favorite deck styles: the ol' jund Midrange Value beat down. First pick was Sylvan Library into Ob Nixilis. Wish my mana base was a little more solid, and had a hard time scrounging up lands, and they seem to go really quick in this format...

    General The Draft Exchange

Another draft of the good games cube! First pick was Dread Return with the eye to wheel Razaketh. He didn't wheel! #Tilted. I proceeded to have a hard time finding anything worth reanimating, instead finding a plethora of {U} and {B}'s most value players. Ended up more in a...

    Card/Deck The Simic Combine (GU)

I've found Nissa's Crystal Ball mode to be quite powerful and liked, with the neat engine-y +2/+0 chains being used probably 75% of the time I've seen her in play. My biggest issue with UG is why does every good card seem to be CMC 3? Like we are talking monocolors U/G and the UG section both...

    General Fight Club

Welcome to posting! I think of those two, I like the Cathar a little more. Another option that I've seen do well, in a limited setting at least, is Cliffside lookout Sticking around after the effect is solid, enabling multiple turns of pumping, or multiple pumps at late game. Is this in...

    Card/Deck The Gruul Clans (RG)

Now that is a good green "agro" card. Saw standard play, sees modern play. Really a green style of increasing pressure: exploiting the mana system to advance the game ahead of schedule. Definitely recommend this card. I used to run it, but have switched to another gruul card that coincidently...

    General Fight Club

You certainly can run green cards that approximate an aggro section, and at this point nothing seems to change your mind anyway. What it all comes down to is opportunity cost. You list three other themes you want green to be doing (and "does a lot of stuff"), and lament finding space for them...

    General Fight Club

I think the part of your post that called to me the most, ahadabans, and the part I want to latch onto is "Green IMO should be trying to make bigger creatures" Yeah totally agree. And I think Green's number 1 purpose in supporting aggression is to "make bigger creatures": rancor resilient...

    General Fight Club

Since one of the main bases of the question posed was "can Basking Rootwalla work even with little to no discard outlets", the madness upside is largely moot. If the madness is a large portion of the value of Rootwalla, that's probably an indication it's not a worthwhile include. FWIW, I don't...

    General Fight Club

Well, the point of the post was implying that Basking Rootwalla isn't really worth it by offering alternatives. It takes entire turns just to get slightly above curve, and doesn't have much access to its upside. If you want a version of this effect, the best is probably twinblade slasher I...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

hard to really quantify, but it's just a cool card to let a variety of long-game decks play around with an effectively one-card engine. Stock goes up with cards like: daretti, scrap savant torrential gearhulk chromatic star fiery temper and others. These are largely qualitative examples. I've...

    General Fight Club

Ok, so doodling around on MTGS, and I happened upon the random-card-of-the-day, and there was a great card that I totally haven't considered in quite a while, but am now realizing may be the perfect 4-slot that I want rather than Sram's Expertise emeria angel (vs. Srams, Spectral procession, etc)

Really puts Rishkar's expertise into perspective a little... some fraction of the time 1 mana draw, 3, 4... 7? That cycle is good. I'm trying Sram's expertise right now alongside Battle Screech, Lingering souls, and Secure the Wastes. Battle Screech is definitely one of my favorites. Two spells...
