    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Yeah, Massacre Wurm breaks my rule about finishers that are also stabilizers wrapped up into one neat package like a Christmas ham. He's BBB, so not easy to cast but still at 6 mana that is doing a bit more than I'm happy with. I did try it, but after it took a game where a bad deck was losing...

There's always Nekrataal. :) Soul Snuffers looks interesting, but it's shrinking all your dudes too (which is fine just more narrow). Along those lines, you've got super old school option in Bane of the Living. That one is cool because it can scale larger at the cost of killing itself...

Sets [OGW] Oath of the Gatewatch Spoiler Thread

I think you have to have Wastes in your base land piles regardless. I'm not suggesting people run 8 of them in their decks, but one or two to support whatever colorless cards you are running feels prudent. One of the issues with just relying on utility lands, mana rocks, pain lands, filters, etc...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Here's the thing with Skinrender. I hear you on the value thing, but it's also useless on an empty board since it kills itself (much like Flametongue Kavu). It's also a zombie, so it has that going for it. Some number of value 2 for 1 cards are probably acceptable, though YMMV on how many and...

Sets [OGW] Oath of the Gatewatch Spoiler Thread

Think of the colorless symbol like any other colored mana symbol. If Matter Reshaper cost 2W, how many white mana sources would you want in your deck? The only thing that makes colorless slightly more flexible is the incidental colorless you get off things like pain lands and utility lands...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I dislike protection more than most and put up with it on just a handful of cards I really like or which serve a specific purpose (Master of Waves, Scryb Ranger, Karmic Guide - that might be all the protection creatures I still run).

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Double protection is my biggest gripe with that thing. I haven't played it though, so maybe it's less offensive in play than in theory? I've always been luke warm on the lifegain as an archtype thing mainly because gaining life doesn't directly lead to a game winning strategy. Ajani's...

    General Mana Base Brainstorm Thread

FWIW, I really like the Vivids. They are really solid for that 3rd color splash. The ETB tapped thing makes them a bit slow, but because they provide flexible fixing I think they are worth finding room for personally.

Eternal Dragon is sweet. It bins itself (plains cycle is almost always how this gets played initially) for reanimator shenanigans. Follow-up with Karmic Guide later or any reanimation effect really, of you don't bother and it's part of a delve payment, etc. Later in the game, it's a top deck...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Glad Grillo posted this above. I'm completey sold on Skeletal Vampire now. I ran it in a control list the other day and didn't realize how sweet it is with Supreme Verdict and Nevinryrral's Disk. Corner cases perhaps (list dependent at least), but sweet synergy nonetheless. Also works with...

I have paired it with phyrexian reclamation and anything that makes additional threats (doomed traveler, etc). I really need to try Gnaw to the Bone. I feel like that should work really well in my graveyard module.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Cool thread. I feel like rares in particular are in a bad spot as far as cube design goes because the rare cube space is huge. Last weekend I spent time reading through the "this or that" thread on MTGS for peasant, and the discussion is very constructive by comparison to the rare version...

General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

I was in the same boat with Rattleclaw and then I saw it ramp out a 6 on T3 and I realized I'd been playing the card wrong the whole time. How is Bellower BTW? I just got a copy of that and was thinking of slotting it in somewhere.

The real solution is running more fetch lands since they give you more than 2 colors, but the cost is so prohibitive on the enemy ones especially. I'm already nervous playing with one copy of Scalding Tarn, let alone 2 or 3 of them in my cube. In fact, I had double fetch for awhile, but I...

    General CBS

Me too. I complain a lot about MTGS for being myopic, but I still read the posts over there. It's valuable in my mind to know where the power max audience is at with certain cards and mechanics because it helps me figure out if something is going to be too strong in my list. Occasionally, I...

What Grillo said. Honestly, we are getting to a point where there is just a huge gulf between Peasant and Power max. I'm all for trying to better define that format so that there's a way to better share information. So many rare cards are being printed and rejected outright by the power max...

    General Mana Base Brainstorm Thread

I've certainly become hypersensitive to this. I only vaguely noticed it during drafts TBH, but often enough to where it was always in the back of my mind as something that wasn't working as well as I felt it should. That article with the math simply solidified my opinion, and now I see it...

    General Mana Base Brainstorm Thread

It's definitely a YMMV topic. And I agree that this comes down to the difference between limited and constructed level mana bases. How often did that deck play courser or hero's downfall on T3? Because if they did that frequently, the player running the deck got lucky (statistically...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Thanks. That's helpful. I'm going to keep Moldervine for now as I already run Griffin Guide and so the cloak is a more unique effect. Plus I have fond memories of running it back in Ravnica.
