Sets [OGW] Oath of the Gatewatch Spoiler Thread

I feel like it's only on the table for discussion in cubes that don't want to run the much better options. I've run condemn before, but I don't like that only control really wants it. I no longer have the room for narrow filler cards like that in my list.

    General Mana Base Brainstorm Thread

You are offering Wastes in the basic land pile though right? Because I feel like most decks splashing <> will want one or maybe even two to fetch via basic land options (sakura-tribe, etc). My thought is this would be like what you would do splashing Banefire or whatever the example we used...

Wow. Both those cards are pretty cool. I love that Searing Light hits both attacking or blocking, so it's less narrow than many other options. I'll have to inventory how many 2 power creatures versus those with more I have. And is that finally the (semi) fight card we've been waiting for...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I have a question on the first bullet. I feel like life payment in black (while certainly common) is bad in excessive for obvious reasons. Having life gain effects (consuming vapors, etc) helps balance this and I'm assuming that's what you are referencing. So my question is, how have you been...

    General CBS

I personally like Wildfire, but it's a brutal effect and so probably not a good fit in lower power environments. Reality is I probably shouldn't be running it anymore. Power maxers generally pair it with Upheaval, and this strategy obviously goes well with mana rocks and fat things that...

Den protector is way better than I thought. I resisted adding it due to price until very recently, but the card is great. It has a sweet form of evasion so isn't embarrassing as a 2 drop. And on t5, he is a bigger evasive threat plus a regrowth. Card is amazing. Played way better than it...

Lyev is really good actually, but I think better in more aggressive flavors of the color pairing. But I could be wrong about this. Lyev is going to be my cut FWIW.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I'm a little nervous about cards that effectively kill 3 toughness dudes for 1 mana. And it's an instant, so that's a pretty strong effect in my cube at least. I run Sunlance now, which is about as offensive as I let my 1 mana removal get (but it's sorcery). I don't know. Removal is in a...

I agree. That third point of toughness is really meaningful, especially on an early creature. It's why I think Reflector Mage is going to be much better in practice because Man-o'-War is a really bad blocker so it's not great in decks that don't want to be swinging early. That coupled with...

I personally don't see the appeal of the 2/3 vigilance guy that makes manlands more broken (they are good enough as is). But that's just me. Also not going to run any of the colorless matters stuff, at least for now. But that's probably not a surprise. We did get really sweet gold cards...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I forgot about Caldera Hellion. And it pitches to force! I may have to shove that into my cube. Crater Hellion is much nastier though (partly because it doesn't need food and partly because it doesn't do damage to itself so can't be bolted away post trigger). And I like the critical...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Firemane Avenger is a lot of fun. If you run things like lightning bolt, it can be a pretty big hit if it dies and I feel like that is what kept this from serious consideration in power max lists. With a 4th toughness or haste, it would have been more appealing. But I'm fine with it as is. I...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I'm currently running Firemane Avenger, and it's not OP and sort of fun trying to trigger the lightning helix (full art promo looks nice too). I feel like angel wants to be discarded because the life gain trigger feels like the best part of the card (so U or B as the third color). 4/3 flying...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I don't like either. Both are taxing on mana. Specter has an ability that is only randomly good (and in a janky sort of way even in best of times). Reckoner has more abuse potential and first strike with 3 power and that ability can wreck some stuff. So it's the better of the two for sure.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I might have to try it. I always liked it design wise and the art is sweet too. Does anyone really have 10 mana to put that thing in play though? I mean, that recursion cost is ridiculous.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I really like that Firemane control deck. You are running Firemane Angel aren't you? How is that? I feel like the power comes from having multiple in your yard (so feels lackluster in cube). But I never played with it much, so could be wrong.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I totally missed the non legendary clause. That's a buzz kill. No Rofellos nonsense either. Still gets cool stuff though. Even if this is just getting me a 2 drop, thats still a value play and really strong if ramped early.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I'd have to see how that game played out but Kirb has 12 creatures in play and B8R has 9 mana out. How many turns has this been going on? And what did the board state look like when Batman came down? I guess I'm just drawing the line on what I call "finisher/stabilizer all-in-one X-mas ham...

I'm trying the Bellower. It feels like a really fun card to ramp into. T3 Bellower, go get me Yasova Dragonclaw sounds pretty bonkers. I like that it encourage a more aggressive take on ramp.

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I'm not sure I would consider Skeletal Vampire as a stabilizer and finisher in one. It's just 5 power for 6 mana. It requires almost all your mana to make another 1/1 dude, which is horrible ROI. Regenerating requires sacrificing bats, so it's got a cost associated and isn't really free even if...
