    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Personal Tutor Acquired this by chance, anyone any experience with this? I kinda like narrow tutors, and this can tutor up some linchpin pieces like Wildfire, Rise from the Tides, Cruel Ultimatum and Crux of Fate in my cube.

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I was at work and had like five minutes to find decent art and mock up a card, so I just picked an old one. You can find alternate versions of cards I made with the other two arts on this forum as well :P

Yeah, that's probably better. Make it cost {2}{w}. But yeah, you want a card that has a playable baseline, and an upgrade that isn't overwhelming. My example was probably undershooting the baseline and overshooting the bonus.

You could easily make catch up mechanics on custom cards.

I played a commander game a few weeks ago where someone cast Omniscience into an actual copy of Timetwister. ... I don't think you're going to run into that situation in cube, but the card is still super scary with draw triggers like Chasm Skulker.

So, that art I used for Riches to Rubble inspired me to design something completely different. It's probably severely undercosted, but I don't exactly know what the right cost would be... Anyway, this is what happens when you let Beast Within and Alpha Brawl (sort of) have babies! I'm...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Ah, sorry, I was replying to the earlier Mindswapper idea. You're a bit prolific at the moment :P I haven't tried anything that gets better based on the number of wins, but I think Suicufnoc's idea of counting played rounds instead is better because it's less volatile in a three round format.

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I do not belief it's worth it, because it doesn't reward drafting well. I don't know if that made sense, let me try to put it into different words. The draft itself is half the fun, building a deck from your draft pile and playing games is almost an afterthought at times. Swapping decks means...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Haha, yeah, I think that's a fair assessment:) It's still not my design though! It's a tweak of Anotak's design! ;)

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Yes, less cards. Given 100 random designs, using your very strict definition of elegance, less cards out of those 100 would be called elegant by you than by me. That is, you might find 50 out of 100 cards of that sample elegant, while I might find 60 of those 100 elegant. I don't have a...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Google, define narrow! See, the basis for our misunderstanding is that we are not using the same definition for narrow. I (and Suicufnoc) are calling your definition more narrow because it's scope is limited. Less cards qualify for the label "elegant" under your definition, therefore it is...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Yeah, that's an un-card if ever I saw one, the only thing that's missing is "don't remove this card from your deck if you're not playing for ante" ;)

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Thanks Suicufnoc. I'm not trying to be unfair Velrun, you're just arguing from a very different point of view. Neither am I calling your view on elegance and design narrow, I am calling your definition of elegance more narrow than mine, which it is if you don't think my design on the right is...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Ok, your definition of elegance is way more narrow than mine, and you are arguing from a completely different angle than me. Your mind's made up already, so there's not much sense arguing over whether my design could theoretically see print if the need arises, because you refuse to envision a...

    General Fight Club

Yeah, these cards aren't the same. It's like comparing Lava Spike to Flame Slash. They're both one mana burn spells, but that's where the similarities stop.

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I think I have already made this clear in my earlier posts, but yes, I know straight up exiling target creature or planeswalker is not a red effect. So... Don't worry, this is not my answer. I merely used this argument to explain why, in this corner case, I would choose this wording rather than...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Oh absolutely! I'm not saying you should definitely use the three mana spell, I'm saying that if your environment needs the effect, it's better to break the color pie a bit and use the elegant wording. Now, whether this is the case is doubtful, since red already has so many ways to deal with...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I am fully aware that red does not normally get to destroy creatures and planeswalkers, but it can effectively do so through thoroughly in-pie mechanics, as exiling, damaging creatures as well as planeswalkers, and dealing massive amounts of damage are on color. Case in point. Brutal Expulsion...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Eh... Direct damage deals with both of those. When they want a red spell to "destroy" they simply use an arbitrarily large number, viz. Star of Extinction. Also, there's been stuff like Aftershock and Grenzo's Rebuttal. It's not exactly on color, but it's not too much of a problem in this case...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Ok, understood. I don't know if the slight upside of ramping yourself by killing an artifact you control (something you don't really want to do most of the time) is worth the downside of ramping your opponent by killing an artifact they control (something you don't really want to do most of the...
