The Desert Cube isn't a Riptide cube and has some great flavor. Also, Riptide sensibilities aren't necessarily what the average cuber would expect, or even want, from cubing.

I don't think backwards is the right word, try different ;) As long as your play group is having fun with your cube, you are doing it right. Also, you're not the only one! Still, the average Riptide cube would still deviate quite a bit from the average mtgs cube, I think :)

I think Besmirch is an awesome card. First you smack them with their own creature, then you set up a trap. Either because it has to attack into something that will kill it, or because it removes a blocker for two turns.

The Monarch mechanic isn't an explicitly multiplayer mechanic though. It's a painless Phyrexian Arena that switches sides.

I think this card is deceptively strong.

Oh, this is interesting! Replaces itself immediately, and is a thorn (ha!) in your opponent's side. Deathtouch is excellent on a blocker.
