Well, luckily those with custom cards can change that, because that mechanic is hella sweet! I just preordered my cards for this set, and spent under 30 euros, shipping included. Most of the juicy stuff really is in the common and uncommon slots! That doesn't include Ob Nixilis and Gideon...

And it also works with prowess! Awaken is the schweetest mechanic since sunburst*! *Etched Oracle and Bringer of the Blue Dawn re-hooked me on Magic :)

Holy crap, why are all awaken cards blue? There's 5 blue awaken cards, 4 white ones, a blue-white one, 3 black ones, and only 1 red and 1 green one. RED AND GREEN ARE THE FREAKING COLORS OF ELEMENTALS YOU MORONS! Sorry, I had to get those caps out of my system... I'm actually fine with basing...

I feel like a lot of the themes going on in this set necessitate including a bunch of related cards to solidify them. There's probably a lot of hard cuts to make if you want to incorporate BfZ in your cube!

I started from scratch with a 360 cube, making painful cuts to get the leanest cube possible that reflected my idea of an ideal draft environment. Then I expanded to 450 by adding cool cards I wanted to run, even though they were by no means essential.

All of those blighted lands are awesome. Congregate, Inspiration, Diabolic Edict, Shock and Harrow are all awesome effects to play in a land slot!

Those cards can be a bit better than usual as well, because you are paying extra mana up front anyway. For example: Burning Wish > Flame Slash Pillage Wheel of Fortune Wildfire Living Wish > Reclamation Sage Obstinate Baloth Krosan Tusker Craterhoof Behemoth

This sounds like an awesome idea for experienced players, but be aware that this will multiply the options a player has by quite a lot. That means slower drafting, slower playing, etc. Especially with less experienced players! I would therefore put much more restrictions on what cards you can...
