General Stale Cube - What Do You Do To Refresh It?

YOU MUST DESTROY YOUR WORLD TO CREATE A NEW ONE FROM ITS ASHES! I think that was from Code Geass or something? Anyway if my list gets boring but I don't have a clear path forward to revise it, I just open up a blank spreadsheet, then make a new list with a new set of themes without even looking...

    General Fight Club

This one really comes down to your cube makeup. If you lean more traditional, Rout is great, and the instant-speed clause is often relevant. HOWEVER, if you're going heavy into land-based archetypes in your cube, Planar Outburst is a really solid role-player in a Lands control deck, and the...

Arena is tough! But it's still more fun than buying packs. I'm sitting on a bunch of dust and Gold until I see what they nerf though.

I like Nether Traitor in my EDH decks, but mana can be just a tiny bit tighter in Cube (lol)

Of the three, I like that Human that makes a Zombie the best. I run Emissary in a cube right now and it's really just filler because I don't have a Bob for that slot. EDIT: every time I talk about black two-drops I have to remind myself to say, "we should all consider breaking singleton on Dark...

Yeah, I didn't mean to say it's the new Rancor, just that its form of recursion has some upsides when you compare it to known Cube force Rancor. I'd run it in any Cube less powerful than my MTGS cube, because I love enchantment themes, but it's no Rancor.

Yeah, it also doesn't have the Rancor problem of not recurring when it gets countered, its target gets zapped in response to the cast, etc

Yeah, like, I'd never run this guy in my main cube, but in the GY-centric budget cube I was making he seemed like a slam dunk. Honestly though, the more I look at magic cards the more I think all cubes should be GY-centric.

Lol, no, the flashback is what makes it so good. I'm saying the flashback being off color is what kills it, because unless you are at least splashing blue the card loses half its value.

Vessel, but trackers instincts would win if it were a true mono card. The flashback is huge, but if you use traditional classifications you're taking a Simic slot for a glorified Impulse.

Centaur Chieftain Found this burly gem in a big box of garbage cards while I was putting together an Evolving Wilds cube for a prospective buyer. I'd never heard of him before, but that buff + his inherent haste seems like a beating. I've never really liked green Overrun effects other than...

General Power max cube - modern borders banned

A number I've enjoyed in some early list-testing is about 3 Moxen per drafter. So 5 of each Mox in a 360 cube, for example.

Breath of Darigaaz is another fun sweeper in this vein. You'll almost always kick it, but there will be some lulz moments when you don't. It's also 4 face damage for 4 mana in a pinch.

My advice would be to strongly consider breaking singleton on the Moxen, as having a high density of them can really give your environment a distinct shape. Other than that, try to find as many ways to win the game with spells as you can, and throw 'em all into the pot! Go nuts!

    Attack on Cube (2021 Update)

From Onder's list, I'm looking to cut Distress, Smallpox, Ash Zealot, Eidolon, and Overrun. The other card are either expensive enough to offset the restrictive cost, or important enough to the overall cube that they warrant the inclusion. I don't really expect anyone to be casting Assault on...

    Attack on Cube (2021 Update)

Hmm... Some of those are definitely expendable. But I have to say I'm not super worried about someone having 3 of one color at 7+ mana. The CC cards do need to be subjected to review, though. Except bloodghast.

If your format can allow someone to cast a 6-mana draw sorcery without the caster losing next turn, yeah, that card is friggin' amazing. And it just gets better every time you RECAST it, if the game goes that long. Green control is starting to be a real thing with unique tools like this and The...
