    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

My completely untested probably terrible idea that I've vaguely been kicking around is to try to semi-support a "oops it's storm!" deck. There are some storm spells (Empty the Warrens) comes to mind that could conceivably be played just for value. Combine that with a higher than average number...

General What are the best green cards in your cube?

My problem has always been that Overrun is a card that causes you to win on the spot without warning. The guy who isn't casting Overrun thinks that they are in a commanding lead. Then they're dead. Most of the other big green finishers say "I'm going to win in a turn or two if you don't answer...

General What are the best green cards in your cube?

I've always liked cards that care about their own power, while not having a way on-card to boost power. It's a little heavy-handed, but it makes new players (who aren't extra-thick) think like a Johnny and I think everyone should at least try that kind of thinking before locking themselves into...

General What are the best green cards in your cube?

Late to the party, and someone mentioned it on page one, but Overrun is easily the best green finisher I'm currently running. To the point where I'm debating taking it out before the next play group (which is Sunday).

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

DRS is pushed without a doubt, but rainbow mana in black isn't historically unheard of (Vesper Ghoul). It's even been done recently! (Gild) It just usually is unreliably and/or costs something in return. Most common is life, but requiring there to be a land in the graveyard is still a cost. I...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

That's definitely a good one that does a lot of good things in a weenie strategy. But its also a rare. Most of the mana sinks that you see in retail drafting is definitely more suited for midrange decks, not weenie. Think of Rix Maadi Guildmage or Skarrg Guildmage. The first one can go into a...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

In retail limited I find it hard to find an acceptable mana sink for weenie strategies. In cube I'll gladly throw in a few fireball-like effects into weenie though. I just don't look for as many as I do for say a green white midrange deck.

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Maybe this is just my style, but even in booster pack drafting I try to get a few mana sinks into any deck for flood insurance. Am I unusual for thinking that's critical? I think that's actually why I don't like playing weenie strategies...

    General Modern Banned List Update

Nevermind that other retailers also rose their prices around there. SCG is just popular to hate and people that like having an enemy will find any "evidence" they can to justify their hatred. I personally rarely, if ever, order from them anymore, but I don't think they're evil. They're just...

Site News Inaugural RipLab draft: February 9th (Sunday)

I was considering asking about being a spectator. I'm interested, but can't commit to playing with a 2 year old. It's far more likely that I could record spectator mode though as I used to do youtube videos and have the setup for it. I wouldn't have to be at the keyboard the entire time, so the...

    Mix-n-Match Cube

Another possible blue section is control. This one has a lot more potential cards and will probably have to be cut down instead of beefed up. It has a notable complete lack of creatures or win conditions. Ones 1 Annul 1 Outwit 1 Dispel 1 Swan Song 1 Steel Sabotage 1 Blustersquall 1 Piracy...

    Mix-n-Match Cube

I posted in another section before, but now I'm actually building the thing. Time to post in the Cube Lists forum! The core idea is that each color has four iterations or "pods." For instance, blue might have Permission (50% counterspells + things like upheaval, etc.), sky aggro, tappers...
