So I've got some awkward news. I'm currently in the middle of a billing dispute with my hosting provider over my latest invoice. From my end, it looks like I'm all paid up, but it would appear that they disagree. It should be a trivial matter to sort out, except for the fact that I haven't been...

    General Fixing the Die Roll

Calvin just mentioned that if I were to actually implement the Lotus Petal / Gold rule, he'd pretty much choose to be on the draw every time as a control deck. Turn three Wrath of God, here we come! Yeah, okay. You got me there. That is clearly too over the top. What works for Hearthstone...

    General Fixing the Die Roll

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm getting at. Even if there's only a 1 or 2% advantage, I'm wondering if there's something minor we can do for the player on the draw to try and recalibrate. Maybe my strong language in my original post kind of exaggerated the degree to which this problem affects my...

    General Fixing the Die Roll

Well, for the first two years of my cube's existence, I was a pretty savage power-maxer. All of the good cards, and multiples of them! Even then, I had a nagging feeling that the die roll was skewing results more than I'd like. Interestingly, I wonder if the midrange attrition mirrors, including...

    General Fixing the Die Roll

I'm gonna start with the premise: the die roll matters in cube, and it matters quite a bit. Without any hard statistical evidence in my back pocket, I can't tell you exactly how much it matters. But I've seen enough anecdotal evidence over the years to tell me that it's not an insignificant...

Chris, I think you just convinced me to run Ajani's Presence. I'm already running Swift Justice; other than the lifegain component, the new card is probably just better, right?

    Card/Deck Black Sheep

I should try Crystal Ball again. I put it in for the exact same reasons as Goldenpineapple - in that it's far less annoying to use than everyone's favourite Divining Top - and gotten the exact same "really?" reactions, which prompted me to cut it. I probably just need to force it one week and...

The Dandy Cube (Chris Taylor's Cube)

I realized the same thing about Bitterblossom as you: control ain't beating that, especially turn two on the play. I think I'm ok with that, though. Those are the three best black two drops in my cube, too. Not a fan of Oona's Prowler? That guy does some good work in aggro decks here. I also...

I had to ban Deathrite Shaman here. Thing was so goddamn obnoxious.

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I'm.. probably the biggest fan of Stone Rain on these boards. Run that, Molten Rain, Avalanche Riders, the whole package! Ice Storm, though..? That's a little more dicey, as green isn't typically the all-out aggro colour that red is. In green, I prefer land destruction effects that are...

Heeeeeeeeeeeeey whaddaya know they fixed that annoying loophole on Oblivion Ring ...wait actually I think we all liked that loophole

General "Sacred Cow" or "Cube Staple"

No one's broken it so far.. so I'll wait until someone does some busted stuff with it, and then reevaluate. Green could use a boost here, in any case. On the other hand, one time one guy drafted both Noble Hierarchs and all hell broke loose. That was a little easier for him to assemble.

General "Sacred Cow" or "Cube Staple"

I tried multiple Noble Hierarchs once, actually. It damn near broke my cube in half. I wish I could say I was kidding. I'm on double Arbor Elf now (to go with double Utopia Sprawl). It's a lot safer!

Hmmm.. it's a 6/6 for six on an empty board, or a 12/12 for six on a crowded board. I think the second scenario is alright, but the first scenario would make me sad. So I suppose it depends on how often your cube has gummed up board stalls, versus empty board topdeck wars.

To be fair, they're both kinda balls, no? Is there a single playable card from either camp? Man, now that I put it that way.. no wonder the last set sucked.

As a fan of all things green ramp, I'm even happier that they returned to monstrosity. And that there's at least one X-cost activation, and it's in green, to boot. Hallelujah! ...wait, wrong Gods.

Red just has all the best strive cards, huh? I like the upside on this, compared to something like Mark of Mutiny, which I'm already running. If the game's gone long and I can steal their two best guys, that feels it'd be a massive tempo swing. I thought strive was dumb and unoriginal...

General "Sacred Cow" or "Cube Staple"

Oh, man. I'm glad you asked! Like I mentioned earlier, I cut Lightning Bolt about a year ago, and I haven't missed it all that much. In that time, though, I've been struggling to find good {R} burn spells in the Modern card pool. I was running Shock for a good long while.. until it dawned on...
