I think your ideas on the whole sound sensible. My biggest concern is with the "newer players who probably prefer if we just skipped all the drafting and deckbuilding" part. Microsealed is perhaps intimidating in such a setting. Ultimately you know your playgroup and what they can handle though...

I put hybrid cards in "monocolor" slots all the time. Cackler in Red, Redcap in Black, as long as your total proportions are in the right ballparks, it drafts fine.

Is there proliferate or something in this set or is the idea that you use these guys twice and then they sit there for their static ability?

I really don't like hand revealing as a frequent mechanic. Once I know too much about the opponent's hand it becomes too much of a headache-inducing math problem. I don't think it's a problem at all to have 4 colors supporting an archetype. It creates layered demand, and lots of different ways to configure decks in ways that feel quite different based on the colors drafted.

Every time I've played with Meren it kind of makes me feel bad because it's so oppressive if it sticks. I don't think it's a card that creates good games of Magic.

When I ran 4-player cube nights we always just round-robin'd it or ran Team Sealed. Team Sealed gives you a bit more 'drafty' decks than regular sealed (9 packs each will use your whole 270 pool), and then we'd run two rounds of 1v1 matches. If the score is tied 2-2 after those games you can...
