I'm really excited to see if I can get spells matter / storm to work in peasant. I'm going nuts here thinking about what cards I want to throw my weight behind. List building is sorta a new game for me I was usually more involved in pruning and critiquing based on my experience before and now I feel like such a fish out of water.

The cards I've doubled up on so far in the red section are Young Pyromancer, Faithless Looting, Burst Lighting and Searing blaze. I'm seriously on the fence on firebolt and lightning bolt but I guess theres a lot of learning a lot of room to fill out in the list even with the doubles. You guys serious don't even want to see the blue section. I'd love any recommendations for cool delver / tempo creatures and things that make graveyards and storm more exciting. I cannot wait to play against a guy with 2x Binding Grasp!

I'm so on the fence on how heavily to support storm. I'm really not that into rituals. I'm more into snap / fae clouds but critical mass right?

Thanks for opening my eyes to cube design with intention guys. This is really blowing my mind.

I'm actually still totally on the fence about either proceeding with these zany ideas or scrapping that all together, picking some more universal decent limited stapely pauper cards and restarting this whole experiment. I guess excitement is what I'd say was my biggest draw towards PEZ, and that magic players have been telling me to move in that direction. I think there is still a definite difference between the feel and power level of cards in the realm of peasant and cards in the world of broader cube formats though. At the end of the day I'm not sure rares are necessary for anything I'm really excited about so I'm going to forego that for my sanity sake, but also just for power level reasons and I really do enjoy the thought of this 15th card idea for a fun minigame. Throwing a random "rare" in each pack like Revilark or a fatty you'd be excited to cast your animate dead on or something green is dying to ramp into sounds like it would add a lot to the pauper and pez I've been trying to read about and tooling around with online of late.

I also just have absolutely no problem proxying for the time being. Hahhahahaha
I am a little more worried about WW and the like in pez. No anthem enchantments and much fewer 2 power 1 drops, but I'm pretty sure I can find a way with the rare slot gimmick or just run extra copies of Dryad militant and ugh Loyal Cathar? I wish I had more people to bounce ideas off of. I can't wait till Chris T is in wedded bliss and I can start bugging him again.

Flame Jab ? It kinda does both the things you were talking about (graveyard / spells matter).

What's wrong with Loyal Cathar? I run him in my regular cube with enthusiasm! Unless you're ughing at doubling up on it; too many WW is bad, I agree.

Woah great suggestions! I'm a little wary of more lava darts and flame jabs because of how saturated the list is going to be of x/1 creatures. It's looking like Red/x decks are going to be super aggressive but also able to put a real hurt on more than one creature per card, be that via the pyromancers, firebolts, damage dividing and gutter sniping. I just think I'll throw together something really stilted at first and do some learning.

I think my grief regarding our loyal friend is more my grief regarding white. At first white seemed like it would have the least archetypal cross relevance of any colour, it looked really flat. I'm also not sure what kind of tank the cathar will turn out to be in a format with way fewer rare midranged bombs and sweepers. I'm hoping the 2x Arrogant Wurm and 1x Reckless Wurm will help stop it being a game of bear battles, but it's still early days in the list. My worries about white are getting a little better since I realized how well Midnight Haunting and Raise the alarm work with spells matter decks and how well Lingerering Souls works with reanimator and I guess a little cross appeal for madness enablers. Still looking for more of a handle on white and black and green. I think tokens and lynxs will help.

I should mention despite limiting myself to pez for the main list I think I'll be having a rare mana base. Double Fetch sounds good to me too, especially if threshold is going to be a thing. I'm really on the fence regarding how many bouncelands to run, or if at all. It sounds so right with the heavy storm theme but I don't want the format to feel as slow and bumpy as real pez or pauper. I do like how they add a little more relevance to any mana denial that hangs around, but maybe I'm the only person in the world that likes that sort of frustration.

You guys have been such an inspiration and a resource for this process, I cannot imagine ever trying to put anything like this together if I had just stayed in my normal circles and kept an eye on MTGS.

I have found it very difficult to make White anything but very good in my Cube (I guess I just like GW, though I admit the idea of Crueling someone per Paul Cheon makes me a little wet)

If you want to nerf White, M14 might be a nice model

The double-color two-drops are good in Cubes with less fixing, I think. I'd max out at one per for me, so something like

Eight-and-a-Half-Tails (non-negotiable)
Kargan Dragonlord (ditto)
Strangleroot Geist (ditto)
something blue and something black

White is fine I guess, it's just... not very exciting? It obviously has some very good cards, but nothing that I see in a pack and think 'well, this isn't the best card here, but let's see what cool stuff I can do with it'

I had a revelation while chatting with Eric. Young Pyromancer +Raise the Alarm = Easy Battalion! Are there any good battalion guys?

Token theme is making a little more sense now, with the flashback goodies like Roar of the Wurm, Grizzly Fate and Travel Preparations looking like they'd work with everything else. Sprout Swarm is the bane of many a pauper cube but might be lots of fun for a storm / spells matter deck especially a Hunting Pack based one. A question for another time. A rare slot gimmick will give me access to a copy of glorious anthem every couple of drafts but I'm not willing to lean on that. I'm really curious about white at the moment. Black is like a looming specter, I don't think grave crawlers will fix my pez cube, though they are a power level I wouldn't mind. Sacrificing tokens? eh.

Too bad it's rare.

I think maybe I should start a thread in Cube Lists to chronicle it's growth and get input somewhere where it doesn't fill everyone's space to shoot the shit.

I've realized that for whatever reason I don't really like planeswalkers (or at least generic planeswalkers) but I do like cards that act like planeswalkers e.g. Primeval Bounty, Obelisk of Alara, Trading Post. Can anyone think of more examples of these?
sort of a page back response but I actually love cards like this too, off the top of my head there's:
Olivia Voldaren
Chainer, Dementia Master
the 20 guildmages and the 5 alara battlemages / 5 invasion apprentices
Lux Cannon sort of
Etherwrought Page i wish this card was useful in someway

The new rule pointed out a problem in my draft/build of UG in my cube: that combo is already lightest on interacting with creatures after they hit the board, so don't expect a clone to save you from elephant norn any more :o

Overalls I'm pro this change

in Cube it's harmless enough, I think

however, i can think of nobody that prefers 2 jittes or lilies on board to 0. in standard and modern geist wars will be even dumber. where are these mythical people that like this change? they're as elusive as "those who dislike too much fixing in Limited"

the funny thing is that the change sounded good and ended up terrible, which is the opposite of the curmudgeon gradually coming around that usually describes the emotional trajectory of critics of MTG and other things

I wonder how much of the bad taste of the change is down to the fact that legends/planeswalkers have been design with the fact that clone kills them in mind? I'm kinda waiting until Theros hits to see if that has some less ridiculous legends that demonstrate a better design going forward.

Sounds like it blows regardless for eternal formats though.

the mind-blowing thing is that Lin Sivvi was _not_ designed with that in mind

but yeah the implications for eternal formats are 100% negative with the possible exception of JTMS on JTMS

Any of you guys partake in some casual tvtropes? I'm studying for an exam these days, so I've found myself with just tabs and tabs and tabs lining up in my browser. What a wonderful website.
