I hate everything you like

I wana hear about this.

nothing too revelatory, the incredible quality of Mankind's Greatest Fiction (at least s1-4) is marred by the fandom of guilty white people, the kind that post (i am not making this up) shit like this on thanksgiving (i hate them too), not realizing that The Wire not only hates them, it hates that they hate themselves

"This morning, I'm thinking about colonialism's lasting violence, about dominance, cultural mythology, about historical erasure, and my privilege and complacency. On this day, I want to challenge myself and all of us (especially white folks) to be more active and committed toward ending white supremacy. I'm thankful for so many thoughtful, brave, radical anti-racist people in my life who have challenged me and pushed me and who are doing amazing work in this world. Thank you!"

things i like a lot whose fans i fucking hate
1. david foster wallace
2. the NFL
3. MTG
4. classical music

edit: i hate that dom hates the wire

Dota is fucking boss. I havent had the chance to play in forever, but I used to play a mean tidehunter or Veno

I'm just about done with DOTA. I am absolutely terrible at it and I'm not improving. The last time I played I played Bloodseeker and jungled literally the whole game. One guy on our team was being an asshole and insulting everyone and criticizing us. He said "but I can't say anything about The Hills Have Eyebrows (that's me) because I haven't seen him yet." I really suck. It's great.

Honesly, I've found dota to be one of the more receptive MOBA communities. LoL and HoN have even more screaming and pissing and moaning, though at least LoL has a somewhat servicable single player mode with their Bot AI.

It's certainly a painful game to get a handle on, but playing with friends really helps.

if they took magic and made each player control only one permanent but then made it 5v5 and then suddenly this version of the game because way more popular than magic, or even way more popular than any other competitive game i can think of, how would you feel

I'd feel pretty fuckin jazzed if I couldn't play magic (Coming from someone who can't macro)

Part of the reason I feel out of place in Belgium is that everybody here loves League of Legends and Big Bang Theory.

I have a theory for this. Belgians grow up watching American television, but only sort of. They grew up watching the shows that could be exported and sold for cheap licensing fees, meaning, they grew up watching B- an C-list shitcans. As a result the entire country has terrible taste in television.

I'll have to ask dom and Jason if liking Antwone Fisher is part of the same problematic white person guilt addiction.
I always thought I liked the wire because of the same part of me that watched enough law and order to have a 30 second exposure instant recall of any story arc, and because I tended to like series reboots of things that made them edgier and grittier and tropier (comics, fables what have you).

I guess I kinda hate people that are really into film, because I find film discourse super contrived and inaccessible and it really hits that hating-the-other spot in a way I can feel correct about with just the right tinge of guilty shame. Plus have you ever heard these shitheads talk to directors after a screening. I wana cry.

Man, I love film, but I get what you mean. I tried to read my friend's master's thesis on Eyes Wide Shut and it's just beyond me.

I have played over 3,000 games of League of Legends.

I am a huge board game nerd, but I hate Agricola. Play Caylus like a man!

I played Agricola once and it was one of the worst games I ever played. Well, or so I thought, until afterwards the guy who introduced it to us says "oops, I had you guys play a four-player game on the two-player board."

But I hate games where so much is going on with your opponents and you can't be arsed to care about any of it. Like, games like Civilization (board game) have players all pursuing their own tech trees and governments and everything, but there's so much shit that you can't even take their actions into consideration while playing. So you sit there playing essentially solitaire and wishing you were somewhere else.

I really like games where my passive sorta proactive gameplay is all mixed up in other people's options. I have a lot of vindictive friends so it sorta dulls the blow a bit.

film studies majors are the most creatively sterile fuckheads at any college, after "creative writers." i can always tell when a horrible article has been written by a creative writing "person"

i hate board games. i hate learning their sets of rules and i hate that i hate that and i hate that i never make any decision of any strategic depth when i pick up a new board game because i'm just learning the rules.

i hate that western europe likes hatable american TV. what the fuck is their problem?? across the channel there is a brilliant English TV culture to be cherished, though i wonder if my worship of Alan Partridge and Iannucci's incomparable oeuvre would be condescended to by a real Anglophile / Englishman in the same way we tend to think of "Big Bang" bungholes as Eurotrash

Everything seems less appealingly exotic inside the culture of which it's a part, though the gap there seems to be greater with British exports than most others. Just look at the remarkably unremarkable Downton Abbey, which has a cult following for reasons quite beyond my (or anyone here's) understanding.

I like what I've seen of Iannucci. I'd recommend The Thick of It (and also In The Loop), which is very British but a delight if it's what you're into.

downton abbey is totally unappealing to me and i agree with your assessment of anglophiles, though the most pretentious ones over here are those insufferable pricks who pretend to be into EPL. are the english equally america-starved?

let's all post thick of it clips below, i'm going first. (MTGS: 'this is a sacred place. you may not believe it, but by GOD it's a useful hypocrisy' etc.)

I dislike foil cards and promo cards in general. I prefer my cards plain, simple and blackbordered.

I really like Agricola and boardgames in general. But the second game is the best, when you know the rules and have seen the end game.

I think Beta cards look like garbage. Way too dark. Except for Pestilence, that black on black is kinda awesome.

I have no idea why people don't like white borders. They look good to me.
