Sets [KLD] Kaladesh Spoilers Thread

I love create as a way to cut down on extra rules text, but much like other templating changes, it's going to annoy me that I'll have a mix of the new and old wording in my cube. *sigh*

Don't know exactly how useful this is, but damn the BCS is pretty insane (Sac a Tombstalker???). I like the artifact clause thrown on, allows you to sac something like Bonehoard or Hedron Archive.

Seeing how Energy is used on some cards (like the burn spell for 1R) makes me think that this limited environment will be super skill intensive. There is an entirely new resource to manage and I think in many cases it won't be easy to decide whether to deplete your Energy reserve or accumulate Energy for later use. Every single card using Energy counters can scale a lot, based on how you decide to allocate your resources.

I mean, I think this entire Energy thing looks ugly AF on cards and super parasitic, but I expect the limited format to be very interesting and nuanced.

I would also appreciate a lot if WotC could print at least a block every now and then in which they don't introduce a different card layout (this time it's Vehicles), but maybe that's just me.

Is it just me, or does this seem really good? Can crew it with the bozos from a Hordeling Outburst, or with a Flickerwisp, after you flicker it for value. Nice!

Voltaic Brawler is playable on its own, and Harnessed Lightning is almost there. Energy is starting to come together nicely.

I don't really know how vehicles will play out, but I'm definitely going to run some. I'm not sure a vanilla 5/5 is a good enough payoff for crew 3, but it will make combat interesting.

Sadly, I think this Chandra is too good for my cube? I hope not, honestly, but this is Pyromaster to a whole 'nother level.

You know you want this in your cube, don't you?

Chandra is pushed. I don't really "feel" it, but it's pushed. The mana ability feels a bit glued on, I don't think she's ever done that.

That Chandra is incredible and the art is amazing. Now I'm left with the tough decision of deciding which of these I want to run:

I'm a huge fan of Pyromaster and was reluctant with playing Flamecaller for a long time, but it ended up being an amazing finisher that was completely fair and interactable. This new one seems like it won't be all that oppressive either, and I dig all the different play to it, but I dunno. I might just end up rotating the three from draft to draft. The new one definitely wins on the art front, it's going to be a gorgeous foil.

This is really close to red sculptor. I am genuinely surprised WotC printed a red walker this pushed. I can't even.

I really want to play summonings but I don't think I can. I love the idea of getting a token with each instant/sorcery cast, but six artifacts is so far out of reach. I don't like flavor text abilities, esp when they send false messages to drafters.

This set is shaping up to be really amazing, and I'm seeing lots of potential includes as I flex my power band a little more. I think the pared back number of mechanics is helping, for sure. Obviously there's still lots left to see (and room for disappointment), but I can see energy coming into my cube and being a real hit. It's a very simple concept, and it introduces a new resource that seems easy to use but skill-testing to maximize. I may be in love already. Two very cubeworthy artifacts being spoiled already is pretty exciting, too, because it makes me hopeful of more to come!

Alright, I'm gonna be the sourpuss here. Chandra is not JTMS. The comparison is frankly laughable. That does NOT mean that she isn't a good planeswalker; in fact I would say she is likely the best chandra ever printed... but the comparisons to JTMS are overblown.

Just gonna put that out there.

My cube currently has 3 red walkers: Darreti, scrap savant, Koth of the hammer and chandra, flamecaller.

I'd like to replace one of these with new Chandra, but... which one?

Well, let's break it down. Jace's best ability is probably brainstorming every turn. Chandra's first +1 is probably comparable. She draws you a card. If you can't use that card, it turns into a free shock, which is indistinguishable from a card in a red deck. It's not the same level of card selection, to be sure, but the option for free repeatable damage every turn likely balances that out.

Jace was good at protecting himself with his -1. Chandra's -3 is better, since killing a creature is better than bouncing it. You can't do it as often, but killing a creature tends to be more permanent, so you won't have to do it as often.

Fatesealing ins't bad, but I think ramping by 2 is stronger. Consider that if you have a 2-drop in your hand, Chandra is effectively a 2 mana spell.

Their ultimates both win you the game very quickly, but Chandra's comes online faster.

Like, I don't think she's just equal to Jace. I'm saying she's better than Jace.
