Sets [ORI] Magic Origins Spoilers

Huh, I've never seen that card before. Sadly, I didn't play much of Kamigawa.

It doesn't come close to magic, but they created the concept of weapons, the Coin, and new mechanics that are otherwise impossible to do in paper magic (summon a random 2-drop, add literal bombs to your opponent's deck, etc.). I feel like I remember discussing magic borrowing other ideas from hearthstone on here before, but I can't think of any examples off the top of my head.

Anyway, +1 spell damage is prevalent in hearthstone and I really do like that effect.

Two of the best mechanics that could be translated into Magic are Stealth and Divine Shield. One is hexproof done right (can't touch this until you get aggressive) and the other is a one-time protection bubble.

"stealth" has been getting some cards, not sure when they were designed on a timeline with hearthstone release:

Divine shield hits somewhere between persist/undying and the phantom cycle from judgment or whenever. Shield and Stealth counters are easy enough ideas, but WotC doesn't make new widespread counters very often- last one was level up, right?

Mediocre? Are you kidding? That thing is basically the perfect red 3-drop! It hits for 3 after the first (surprise mothafucka!) hit and punishes them for dealing with it outside of combat (ok, and activated abilities). I love it!

Hoooooooooot shit! Get into my cube!

I suspect the right play is to just cast this turn 2 and bash with it! Who cares about not being able to cast the exiled card, you're still curving out like a madman and hitting for 3 (or more if you made a one drop) on t3! It's exile and cast ability makes it a much, much better topdeck in the mid to late game than your usual two-drop in red though.

Edit: I'm officially pumped for this set. Looks like a hoot! The rares look a lot better than those in Modern Masters 2015 as well ;)

I think we were toying with this trigger before, but on a sorcery instead of a body. These cards look great, what a cool set. Far more exciting than Magic 20XX.

{1}, exile an instant or sorcery from your graveyard, choose one:
  • Counter target noncreature spell unless its controller pays {2}
  • ~ gets +1/+1 until EoT
  • Tap target creature
  • Untap target Creature
Jeez this thing does it all if you want it badly enough... pretty awesome

Ram-gang has been having trouble for me these days; starting as a bear, even with haste, is a real downside for me :(

This set has something for everyone, wizards has been hitting sets out of the park with consistency lately, its uncanny.

FWIW I'm pretty low on Scab-Clan (Ram Gang comparison is apt) and high on Abbot

I'm really starting to have a tough time knowing what to do with "graveyard as a resource" cards at this point, there are just so many and a lot of them non-bo. Fortunately this card isn't too interesting, I don't think the extra point of power over bloodghast/gravecrawler/bloodsoaked justifies the mana+exile cost.

Those are your other BB 3/x's

Here's the query of every black 3 power 2 drop. It's a sad list

I'm kind of intimidated by Talent... I like awakening as a card but I dunno about cubing it.

Is Evolutionary leap not nuts? No sorcery-speed clause? Turn your opponent's removal into card advantage, and it does a lame survival impression to boot? I'm slamming it.

This set is really picking up!

I want to believe in Abbot, but I don't see it? It's mostly worse as an aggressive 2-drop than anything you could play in its place, and less aggressive decks won't want it. Excited to give it a try regardless.

Evolutionary Leap is a super sweet sac engine, considering the only real comparible cards to it was culling dais and the flatly unplayable carnage altar and Phyrexian Vault. Sifting for a creature is probably better on average then draw a card too. . .

Yeah, that about sums it up. How sweet is this card in a {B/G} shell with Gravecrawlers? Sick! {B}{G}: Draw a creature card, and eventually stack your deck read the card.

Random order brah.
Still though, card is sweet.

I'm high as fuck on this card because YP can be a bit too strong sometimes, and this card really helps chain prowess stuff together. I had a version that looted instead, and this seems better

That black 5 drop is super pushed. I'm actually worried it's too powerful. Look at all the things that can abuse it (and I'm talking ABUSE here - mass producing 5/5 flyers is ridiculous even for cube). Mimic Vat, Alesha, who smiles at death, Reveillark, every blink/bounce effect in the cube. The 2 life loss is not off setting what you get with this dude either and it's so easily mitigable anyway. Chump block with it. Swing and get it killed.

I don't know. We've all been wanting a really good 5 drop for black since like forever. I think that ship has finally docked in the harbor. Talk me off the ledge here people. I really think this guy is going to be dangerously close to GRBS.
