Sets Shadows over Innistrad Spoilers Thread

Well, I imagine fetchland and probably one of instant/sorcery are going to be easy without much effort, both with some more careful deck construction.

That 4th one can be a bit hard. Creature is the obvious easy choice, but not always applicable given the deck, and artifact is traditionally REALLY hard, unless your cube has piles of spellbombs and eggs in it. Enchantment is basically downright impossible, to the point where people put Seal of Fire in their decks to make goyf bigger :p

There's things you can do in cube construction to help all this, but overall, delerium looks quite hard to actually achieve naturally. Like self mill and lots of looting hard.

Also no way this is ever playing well with your delve shit :p

I'm going to try this for reanimator, seems fine even without delirium in the cube.
It also makes 50% of your delirium already if you add delirium effects.

Epiphany at the Drownyard {X}{U}
Instant
Steam Augury for X+1 cards.

Pretty neat actually with delirium in the set!
Yeah, I'm liking it. Probably will see standard play, and would be solid in a lot of cubes around here. Steam Augury is def worse then FoF, but that's not a bad thing, and when you can X=7 the value will be there.

Also X=1 is a cute little spell

A reprint, but actually could be really strong in this Std. Very engine-y indeed:

This set is looking to be straight gas for all sorts of stuff:

I'm busy trying to figure out if I can play this new Olivia in my cube. There's no +1/+1 synergy, but there is GY weenies, and I already have Alesha...

I figure she's got four axes to work with:

1: haste + pump. This needs essentially zero synergy to be ok, and with synergy is totally gravy.
2: discard. This is half of the previously mentioned synergy. she gives you a medium easy outlet to ditch cards which is great if that's what you're into.
3: +1/+1 counters. In rakdos this tends to be along the lines of Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch (which ends up being redundant with this but that's neither here nor there) so I'm not sure how much mileage you could get out of this. Gets better in other colors, clearly, or with the odd Volt Charge kind of thing.
4: vampires. For cube this may as well not exist, unless you're me and you're trying to force the Death Baron/Stromkirk Captain/Skeletal Vampire deck (hint: do not do this)

It sounds like you're going to be operating on the first and second and those are the better bits anyway, at least in limited.

Jace thoughts: WOW this is the ugliest art of Jace yet & I hope it gets him killed

Sigarda: I wish she could work on ANY graveyard, but that'd be too strong. She's alright I guess but I don't think she's what I'm looking for in {W}{G}

Olivia: She's not looking her best, is she? Like, damn... bummer! With OG Liv being one of our faves (and very well-balanced in our current environ), I don't know if we'll risk running 2 of the same legendary... That said, she's a really awesome card. Maybe I just need to get it a bit altered (art-wise)? She's just lookin real... real sad here :(

Epiphany: I don't want a worse Fact of Fiction when I already have a juicy X draw spell in my list already

Final thoughts: Jace did not need a new card in this set are you FUCKING KIDDING ME
- Liliana belongs in Spooksburg and she has been notably absent; why not bring her back here?
- More importantly: this seems to really suggest against a Tamiyo printing, which is gonna piss off a bunch of people (not that it will do anything negative to their sales figures, so who cares I guess)
- SORIN is even a focal point of this set so why not bring him back???

You know I have to say, I have a big crush on Jace and I think his character is not nearly as bad as people like to pretend it is, but the number of cards he's gotten feels a bit absurd, and I really hate him showing up here. Why not have Tamiyo and Sorin connect here? Or hell, Tamiyo and Liliana? I'd love to see those two gals team up! Tamiyo could appeal to Liliana's need for power or control or whatever and really flesh out both characters as an Unlikely Duo. Instead we have to trot out MR SMARTEST OF THE UNIVERSE to solve the mystery on SORIN'S PLANE (who is like 10 gigacenturies older than Boy Wonder) while SPOOKY MISS LILY continues her hiatus and TAMIYO WHO FOOOOUND ALL THE SPOOKY MOON STUFF GETS SHAFTED SO BOY WONDER CAN SWOOP IN FOR THE CREDIT???????????

I'm sure there's gonna be some kinda twist... right..?

edit: A theory - Tamiyo went mad from whatever mystery she uncovered studying the moon. We get a new, corrupted Tamiyo in the next set, and she's at the heart of everything somehow, or she knows "The Truth". She'll be {B}{R}, to represent her madness and corruption. (eh? eh???)

I don't really have a problem with more Jaces; provided that they aren't boring. (e.g Vryn's prodigy is an interesting take on his mechanics.) I was hoping from the trailer mentioning his corruption and from the original promo art that Jace would be U/B in this set, but instead they went with... let's be honest, this is the most boring planeswalker in the entire game. As someone on Reddit said, this new Jace feels like if BFZ's Ob Nixilis was blue.

"And the crowd goes mild."

Thinking about RBM's post, it really is a disservice to {U} planeswalkers to just have this particular iteration be another Jace. Beyond how generic the first two abilities are, look the the ult. Remind you of something? Maybe this?:

like COME ON! Erayo, the only other being that's shown this level of skill at counter magic (consistent spell damping) is a MOONFOLK. Like, whyyy wouldn't you give this ability to the moonfolk Planeswalker??? And I feel like they could have easily worked Tamiyo into the story alongside Jace. Just picture "Epiphany at the Drownyards" with Tamiyo stand-floating next to Jace pointing out the portal like "The big bad thing is right there, ya gadamn idiot, that's where my research was leading".... sigh

I do think that his art is ok tho. But still...

Rise From the Tides

Sorcery

Put a 2/2 black Zombie creature token onto the battlefield for each instant and sorcery card in your graveyard.

Hyperbole Rating: Oh, so blue gets snapcaster Grave Titan now?
Actually interested: well, do you want a combo deck? This could work, but isn't horrible when played fairly

kinda a blue spider spawning thing going on

I've seen elsewhere that the zombies enter tapped, I don't know who to believe I can't read Japanese

I think this would be an interesting reward/payoff kind of thing for ye old Talrand, Sky Summoner sort of archetype, though I'll be honest nobody has ever given me positive feedback about talrand. Whether or not this represents a good way to stabilize is rather incumbent on the tapped/untappedness of these zombos. I guess it's a fairly low risk include, because even if you're a control deck or u/g willbreaker or whatever you're going to get some zombos at low cost to you.

side note: my favorite part of blue's slice of the color pie is its ability to make off-color tokens
