There was a point in time when Lava Hounds was my favorite magic card. This angel is Lava Hounds updated to modern creature standards and it is brilliant. Pretty much probably never going to leave my cube.

Also the madness rolling thunder is a nice final piece for a cube madness theme. The tricky part now is finding the best suite of enablers.

Might actually make a few spellshapers more worth it. I could see arguments for:

Also a perfect time for one of my favorite spells:

This is probably not beating out oring, but if you really want it to be snapcastable, I think you could do worse.

Cons:
-Doesn't hit walkers
-Pretty bad T3 on your empty board

Someone mentioned Assault Formation also!

That someone is hilarious, and technically correct, but I'm not sure they're really onto something :p
Also weird point, you know what it also survives? Dismember!
if Bone Splinters was any indication, I suspect Angelic Purge is going to be pretty bad, despite being able to sacrifice lands

in limited at least you'll be able to dump a clue!

There's also plenty of cards that so things when clues die :p
I mention this because are cubes are probably more amenable to sacrificing a permanent than the average limited format. I mean we play innocent blood usually, and if you're not taking out one of the core white removal spells, more adding this on the idea it'll wheel for the player who can handle it, maybe there's something there

I dunno, Sorcery speed kills it for me. How much do we value our creature removal also targeting artifacts & enchantments? I don't think I'd be picking this over afterlife or crib swap unless I was counter drafting mind control auras.

Avacyn's Judgment seems like a good Arc Trail variant, I suppose, yes, but I'm not sure it's something I want to fool around with in my current list without more discard outlets. I'm not sure.
Goldnight Castigator is really cool because of how dramatic it is, and I know I'm open-minded about bigger red plays. It's probably way too swingy, but yall know I'm such a sucker for weird cards like this...

You know that last point is probably why
Thing is they aren't even being consistent with another card in the set?? Always Watching (the nontoken anthem) uses the old templating, and I'd have guessed this one can too. "Wolf and werewolf creatures you control get +1/+1 and have trample"

Scourge Wolf seems pretty tempting. If you're running Faithless Looting, there's a clear route to potentially swinging in on T3 with a 2/2 doublestriker for {R}{R}. More to the point, the double strike helps it feel relevant in the late game, where it can trade with X/4's unassisted (and gets even better with pants). The double red does bother me a tad, but if it's your only {R}{R} 2-drop, then that seems plenty fair to me. And anyway, it's important not to underestimate the value of first strike, which I think is a bit too readily dismissed; if your format offers any way to pump a creature (equipment, counters, anthems), first strike and double strike are extremely valuable. There's a reason my Elvish Archers haven't been bumped yet; the kid suits up well and is in the right colours for it. Red is also a pump-friendly colour in my list, so I'm open-minded.

Now this is possibly a pretty sweet cube card. A 3/3 for 3 isn't too bad but it comes into play from your graveyard pretty easily. Some interesting thoughts:

  • Undying can bring it back, so Kitchen Finks gets even better
  • It's a Zombie for Gravecrawler decks
  • Gives UB another decent angle to go down if you are sick of UB control
Seems durdly enough that I could give it a run even without Gravecrawler support.

Reveillark, Skaab Ruinator, Glen Elendra Archmage, Gravecrawler, Bloodsoaked Champion, Bloodghast, Scourge of Nel Toth, Hellspark Elemental, Pyreheart Wolf, Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, Strangleroot Geist, Vengevine, Murderous Redcap, Kitchen Finks... that's 16 creatures, counting duplicates, who bring bodies back from the 'yard. That doesn't even touch upon the reanimator tools in my list, or what I may shift around to push this guy. Even considering this, I have a bit of an issue with a 3/3 for 3 in the gold section, and CIPT is pretty frustrating... But it's new, I'll definitely say that much, and I'm guessing we'll see at least a few more options out of SoI that will support it.

Living Death is also a thing, but you need to have it in play first.
UB slot is packed with sweet spells, i will not have this one there.
I can see this being awesome in low powered cubes.

Prized Amalgam is definitely neat. The parallel made to Vengevine is fairly fitting. It's the sort of thing you can make minor tweaks in your cube here and there to better support it just that teensy bit more. Things like:
Experiment One -> Young Wolf
Some RB dood -> Shambling Remains
Rotting Rats

I can't see myself running him, personally, but I can see him getting the support needed in the list by RBM, and then it can easily be pushed that last inch or two if desired.
