He probably knows more about competitive magic than me, and I just wrote the above from first principles and my limited knowledge.

Also, on roshambo: I suspect most of us learnt to play and are used to the three-fold roshambo model of control > combo > aggro > control. To talk about midrange we sort of need to go to the metagame clock, where, if aggro is 12 and combo is 4, then midrange is 2ish, so Combo > Midrange >...

That's why they have separated design and development, which is the biggest fucking deal compared to almost every other games company. MaRo doesn't have to be good at competitive magic, but the development and rules teams do. If they aren't, that's where the problem is.

Given maro's professed antipathy for protection from creatures on a recent podcast, someone should ask him about TNN on his blog. E: oh here we go: http://markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/81725744447/if-you-dont-like-commander-eesha-because-protection

Yeah, I'm thinking specifically of that in an agro deck! The number probably goes up the less mad you want your aggro decks. With crazy one drops, you won't get to use it at 4 mana, but as the format slows down, spending 4 mana to get rid of a blocker and get the last damage through seems a lot...

I like the {2/w} kicker (and attached card). I feel like experiment X will be completely broken if there's enough support for it to function.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say 4 mana bestow is probably fairer than 2 mana bestow on that body.

So far I'm vaguely interested in satyr hoplite, and looking at the mechanics going 'well we're scraping a bit here, aren't we'.

    I mean, U doesn't get a 1 mana 2/1, but the effect isn't really black.

Seems U/W to me rather than W/B?

Broodstar-affinity was tier 1 until darksteel came out and ravager got all the press, as I recall

General I Was Completely Wrong About. . .

I mean... at best Garruk is whatever you want to call him. At worst he's GG gain 4(ish) life. Like, goldfishing, planeswalkers are all absurd. When you consider the current creature-centric design principles, the ones that don't just win the game (and, really, there aren't any, they all need...

I mean, that's a core set common. I'd probably cost the cat at 1RR, but compare grizzly bears and any recent 1G 2 drop.

MaRo good at design, film continues after these messages.

Man, if you're playing cards as soon as you can cast them, you must be pretty bad at this game.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I mean, the thing I'm looking at it for are pumping out a pontiff of blight early, casting gary for 3 and general value. It also enables early phenax, bitblast, mogis, doomgape, and nath on colour, and I'm running blazing specter, hyppie, liliana and phyrexian arena that could be dangerous turn...

I mean, clearly its as dangerous as your black 3 drops on turn one, or 3C spells on turn two. Point stands, if I'm not jamming Obliterators, is it that bad? I am running hypie, which is a traditional turn 1 dark ritual play.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

    How dangerous is dark ritual?

    Rogue Community Cube

Does the fact that it gives protection cause issues, given the collective experience of protection we have here?

    Card/Deck Brainstorm as a lynchpin

Yeah, no, I'm running rights of replication, clone and vesuvan shapeshifter. Also I don't have a play group to test with, so I can't be sure bounce is too good, but I run a bunch of auras and +1/+1 counter stuff, so I can see them being super blowouts if you stack too hard. Counterplay: don't...
