    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

The way I understand it, is that the cube tutor bots pick order is based on your pick order. Boros charm isn't a particularly high pick though, so I guess you just got unlucky with it not wheeling. Thats some pool, and there are a ton of overlapping themes. The splicers can work in...

    General Magic Tweaks

Yeah, I just generally find that it dosen't play out that way. One of the obstacles we've had with the player in question is that he dosen't actually care about winning. Explaining curves to him, the idea of drafting the deck in your head, carefully thinking out your turns, all of these things...

    General Magic Tweaks

I will say, as someone that does both multi-player games and single player games, that multi-play really warps things, and that might be a factor here. I have the night structured where we play multi-player and then at the end of the night, play single player. The reason is that you can get away...

    General Magic Tweaks

Yeah, you're right about that. I wanted to show something that could sequence into either a win or a loss, but was a bit of a loose hand due to curve reasons. The deck builder took some risk here with their curve, and its important that the hand have the ability to sequence into a loss, so...

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

Thanks! Yeah, it will be really interesting to see how things play out. I think that is a great point about the slower formats helping with mana screw, and is probably part of the puzzle for why those formats are viewed so positively.

    General Magic Tweaks

Well, let me provide an example. This is good, because I think player psychology plays a big role in cube environments as well. You have your kiddie drafter with his "awesome" G/W ramp deck. He picked all of the awesome monsters he saw, wasn't really building a deck in his head during the...

    General Magic Tweaks

The problem that I always have with a lot of house mulligan rules/draw step scry and so forth, is that it rewards bad deck building. Any of you that have/have had a "little kid" deck drafter in your group knows what I mean: the guy who ignores the curve and goes with a deck of 4-6 drop...

I updated the OP, since it is somewhat reflective (and also includes a thank you to the people that helped) here is it reproduced below: Hello! Since I've completed the project, I am updating here. The spoilers below contain the original post. The cube tutor link is here. To recap, this is...

    General Magic Tweaks

We run relaxed mulligan rules as well. Your first mulligan is without penalty, that after than you go down to 6, than 5, and so forth. Very rarely do we have people go past 6. I think having a lot of cheap cantriping effects (and not all monopolized by blue) in your cube goes a long way to...

    Sets [FRF] Fate Reforged spoilers

Uses for Manifest: 1. Dodge ETB penalties (e.g. skaab ruinator) 2. Blink (which also works with non-creature permanents like faith's fetters) 3. Morph cards with cheap CC/expensive morph costs (skinthinner) 4. Avoiding troubling upkeep costs (vanishing, echo ect.) To really abuse it you need...

While I have heard excellent things about Seattle, it must be said that starbucks is basically just bad espresso drowned in syrups/milk. You really don't need much at home to make better coffee either.

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

Just placed the order for the cards/sleeves that I needed. Prices at TCG seemed reasonable, a bit better than channelfireball or starcity, and the stock (because you are ordering from multiple vendors) was much better. The only unpleasent part about the experience was the habitual "suspicious...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Bob=dark confidant. Confidant was an invitational card, and its designer was Bob maher. Lilly is Innistrad liliana. Cruise-bolt-plow refers to the U/R treasure cruise fueled delver decks and the URW stoneforge decks. The U/R delver decks were basically burn decks, which makes a card like...

There is also valorous stance, which is probably going to slot into more decks than ajani's presence.

I gave it some thought, I think I am going to stick with a 2cc counter in that slot. The reason being I want to have plays available where you cast a cloud of faeries (or snap) but will consistantly still have the mana up to bluff/counter a spell. Right now, my counters are: counterspell...

    Brett's Cube 2025 Edition

How fast is your format? I've always assumed that genesis was more suited for slower, more grindy formats.

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

oh good catch! I took a look at both TCG and ABU and they both seemed better for a lot of singles than channelfireball/starcity games. I forgot, suicufnoc had suggested a more interesting counter than counterspell, but I couldn't really think of anything. Any ideas?

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

I used starcity because it tends to have most of the cards in stock. Is there a better place I should have used? I was just sort of imagining if someone wanted to outright purchase every card, they would go to a site with the best stock.

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

There are some cards that really synergize well with it, but its really not such an upside where I could justify the idea of someone spending $10 on 7 cards when all 50 white cards are probably going to run you sub $15. Expensive commons just always bother me; but at least its not as bad as...
