Thats really nice art. I've never seen any of her work before, evidently she only illustrated three cards :(

This isn't necessary my favorite piece by Rebecca Guay, but I think its part of why she is my favorite artist: Just beautiful in a creepy sort of way. Really jumps out compared to the other versions of the card. Bitterblossom is my favorite art as well.

    Innistrad Themed Cube: 360 Unpowered

I like the tribal nature of the priest and the 1 extra toughness, not really married to the card though. Champion, delver, and stromkirk were all reduced by one. The others represent singletons and were thus removed entirely. Haven't gotten to draft the penny cube yet, still waiting for...

    Innistrad Themed Cube: 360 Unpowered

Things have been getting a little spikey over here. The day the big aggro three have long feared has finally come...and some innocent cards that have been underperforming got caught in the cross fire: Out stromkirk noble champion of the parish delver of secrets angel of flight alabaster...

He dosen't need a broom, just look at his hands. They're huge omg  I don't know what is going on in that laboratory, but it appears to be a threat to anatomically correct limbs everywhere. Speaking of anatomical correctness, lets revist an old friend. recycle I realize that having...

Hey, Rebecca Guay is my favorite mtg artist, but even I cannot ignore the laziness that is aven mindcensor. Recycle is one of Foglio's worst pieces. I kind of suspect that back in the day they had very little art direction (and/or quality control), which gets you interesting art on cards like...

What do we think about running sb cards in cube? I don't really like Relic because its either narrow or a bit of a blowout.

I am going to crash the art nostalgia party. Old magic art was strange and weird, and for every Serra Angel or Sengir Vampire, you had dozens of stinkers like these: brushwagg uktabi efreet joven's ferrets thought lash flight dream chisel mountain yeti blinding beam carapace recycle magnigoth...

    General Magic Tweaks

I think one way to think of it is Rosewater's idea of restrictions breeding creativity, that we discussed in the schools of thought thread. Creativity coming up with ways to compensate for Magic's variance during draft/deck building, and being rewarded with success, is fun (at least for some...

General Flat Power level vs. Less Flat Power Level

I prefer to have a range, with some lower pick cards wheeling to enable certain decks (e.g. throne of geth, gnaw to the bone), and some higher power/build around cards to provide direction to the draft.

When I put on my spike hat, usually the metric I find myself drawn to is "how hard was it to break the game." If I feel like I'm dominating because of some simple abuse, I'll get bored with whatever the game system is and move on. This is a big reason why I cut signets from my cube. Signets...

    General Magic Tweaks

To bring this back to player psychology, I think this is really important because people that lean more spike, johnny, and timmy often times end up talking past each other. And I say this because I know I've seen you describe yourself as a Johnny in the past, and the player you are having issues...

I just want to plant a flag here and clarify: the symetrical impact of a rule dosen't really concern me, its the way a rule changes the nature and texture of the game. My position is that there is a danger that both good and bad players will shift their drafting and deckbuilding approach to...

That is the true evil of starbucks. How did they do it? How do you brainwash millions of otherwise excellent people to use random bits of poorly pronounced Italian to order milkshakes? What is their insidious ends?!?!

Its nice being able to travel and knowing what you are going to get at certain places. I just hate Starbucks because it gives Americans a false impression of Italian coffee. But than this was basically me my first time walking into a starbucks soo...

    Innistrad Themed Cube: 360 Unpowered

I think you'll find that if you play gilt leaf ambush, thats its going to be pretty bad. Two 1/1 bodies at 3 mana is a really bad rate of return, even at instant speed with occastional death touch. The only reason that gather the townsfolk is playable is because of champion of the parish and...

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

...it even looks for super saving shipper sellers  I have no idea if that deck would be janky or not, at least not until I get an idea of whats competitive in the format. The dragonauts might be underperformers, mnemonic wall might be too defensive in an otherwise aggressive midrange...

    General Magic Tweaks

Thats fair enough, and the last thing I would want to do is get in the way of someone else's creativity. If you get a chance to try it, let us know how it goes--who knows, it could be great. I would be interested in knowing if (over time) your bad players start to use it as a crutch, and if your...

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

Yeah, when I placed my order it was 1 card at a time. It was miserable lol

That was kind of an extreme example; but the issue is that his decks should be more consistent, but they arn't because he is a bad drafter. Certain house rules may forcefully make his decks more consistent, but in his case, the inconsistancy they are compensating for isn't just that inherient in...
