Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

I think its a given that natural order is the stronger card, from a power max perspective. Its one of wizards mistakes, which is why I excluded it. However, "draft around," "investing picks," "only as good as the rest of your deck," "work for value" are all reasons why I suggested the card in...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

Basically, you're trying to say its a win more card. If we were playing a constructed format competitively, I would agree and dismiss the card. However, since the problem that G/R has at higher power level is that its boring, I think its worth considering. See the unwritten adds a little...

    Card/Deck Golem Tribal

Thats unfortunate; the effect looks really cool both as a weakness and something to exploit for value. Though, on the brightside, at higher power levels you are only going to be running multiple copies of blade splicer amongst the splicers anyways, so this sort of ups the levels of sweet...

Its fine when its temporary: vines of vastwood apostle's blessing feat of resistance shelter Or you can just run brion stoutarm if we want to really dream.

Ah, you're right about that. Well, I guess that means sakura-tribe elder is the go to 2 mana ramp spell. I can't imagine fertile ground passing muster outside of peasent/pauper power levels. Yeah, the card looks really fun, but it would need a lot of setup to come across for a one shot...

    Card/Deck Golem Tribal

For some reason, I always forget about Brago. Sure, thats one of the nice things about it, is that the splicers are an easy to cheat extra artifacts into the cube. I didn't really explore that whole angle, but if you can run a bunch of them, not only does it make artifact focused cards...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

You end up with a solid midrange/control monsters deck, with combo and pod sub themes. Basically, see the unwritten is a natural gruul card because: 1. Its a great ramp target 2. Gruul triggers ferocious better than other colors 3. You are more likely to get sweet monsters off of the top 8...

    Card/Deck Golem Tribal

Added from page 2, original post below: ...So, based on the number of times I've been asked in the thread, "why would someone do this" it would seem I've done a very poor job explaining myself. Thankfully, CML just provided this fantastic article, about tribal archetypes, which can hopefully...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

The mana denial/lands is an interesting discussion, because it goes into a lot of the knobs and gears. I'm not sure if its really a power max focused discussion. The lower your cube's CC, the less important mana development becomes to advancing your game plan, which means those sorts of mana...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

It is kind of disappointing that after several pages of higher power brewing, we end up back at the old stand-byes of wildfire and pod.

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

I really like threaten effects in general. I usually run about seven of them, between blue (ray of command) and red. The initial reason was that it provides red decks way a way to temporarly remove blockers while increasing their clock. I've also found them to be really fun check cards against...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

Being able to steal a creature and pod it. Combine that with a few good targets to pod into play (huntmaster) and its a pretty fun deck. You kind of need a good density of threaten effects (and pods) for it to come together reliably though.

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

It depends on the format power level. I think ember swallower is the more interesting card, but in a format revolving around cards like swords to plowshares, path to exile, grave titan, thragtusk, and restoration angel, its terrible. In that case, you should run double harrow, double wildfire...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

I was kind of pushing the power line with the above list. The beastmaster and revelation I think are going to be too weak at higher power level. The types of list where they would be good, you already have a lot of creative room to explore in G/R. The reason I was hesistent about ember...

A bit too pricy. :( The delver decks I look at are priced around 1.2-1.4k. I would probably play RUG delver.

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

Exactly. Green ramp can really warp a format, its just more localized. I don't think aggro decks have to be (or even should be) categorized as inheriently non-interactive. Pure fun police aggro, while better than no aggro, is pretty miserable, and the only reason it has to exist is if the...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

To clarify, what we would run into was less of a "play ramp cards to cast my 8 drop" approach, and more of a "cast ramp spells" to cast my midrange guys ahead of schedule. Everything that your wrote about the decks problems is correct, but the problem I had with it wasn't so much it being...
