Card/Deck she wants the d(iscard suite)

I certainly see the benefit of running Persecute type effects as a way to discourage durdling (and God knows I have a problem over here with that). But there are two mechanics my group is quick to form negative opinions on: discard and land destruction. I don't think the objections on...

Card/Deck she wants the d(iscard suite)

Thoughseize hurts combo decks or weak decks with silver bullet answers. If you have a well designed deck, I don't see how this loses you the game on T1. It can't mana hose you. All it can do is take a juicy card in your hand away (which certainly blows), but they lose a card and 2 life doing it...

Card/Deck she wants the d(iscard suite)

Targetted removal plays differently in multi-player than 1v1. It's held longer until a player is identified who posses the biggest threat, and then it gets played (typically to remove wrath effects or bombs). The sense I get is people feel like it gives them some measure of control (less in...

Card/Deck she wants the d(iscard suite)

I like the 1 mana targeted discard effects. Haven't tried Blackmail, but I might. Looks like it has a lot of play to it. I run Thoughtseize, Duress and Inquisition. All three are good and I find the 2 life loss on Thoughtseize can be relevant, so it doesn't always feel superior to the other two...

    General Fight Club

That's pretty nifty. Higher ceiling than Dungeon Geists, but slower to get the first trigger (and boy must it suck when this guy dies after 3+ turns lol).

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yup. Flesh Carver is great. It's powerful, but you can play around it with exile and pacify effects. Wonderfully designed card IMO. Goes in lots of different decks too.

    General Fight Club

Even with my weaker removal suite, that 3 toughness on Icefall was too much a liability over here (Frost Titan tax or no tax - 3 toughness is pretty easy to deal with). Frost Titan is a billion times harder to remove because of it's toughness. I like Dungeon Geists as much as I was hoping...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

Ophiomancer is an automatic 2 for 1 unless you use a sweeper effect. It really hurts aggressive strategies and has minimal opportunity cost since it's 3 power over two creatures for 3 mana (one of which has death touch). And every deck with a swamp can play it. What do you gain running it...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

This is why I can't bring myself to cut it. It has next to zero synergy but it often plays a key role during matches due to that lifelink (and sometimes the deathtouch). From a purely synergy driven philosophy, it's an easy card to overlook. But this is a card I don't think you should evaluate...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

Herald of Torment is a card I've never given a fair shake. Maybe I should slot it in as a 5 drop? Ophiomancer though is just a really obnoxious card. Infinite death touch tokens is not something I want in my meta. Game stalls are already prevalent enough. That card is just way too pushed...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

The blue one is the only one I'm currently considering. It can be used offensively and defensively, and it ties in nicely with mana elves (could be super explosive in the right build). Scry 1 is a perfectly acceptable alternate mode for when I can't take full advantage of the tap/untap. All for...

The black 3 spot is ridiculously stacked. I do not begrudge anyone who can't find room for Fleshbag. He is cool though and does good work in a lot of decks.

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

I like Fleshbag Marauder. It's a zombie and plays really well with black's recursive creature theme (which is the primary black creature mechanic in my cube - I do not support traditional black aggro). It is high variance though (as all edicts can be), which is especially true at 3 mana. But...

I run most of those too (except mardu and graveblade and the walker obviously). I also run hypnotic specter and stinkweed imp. I like Hippie and don't want to cut that. It's iconic, unique in it's effect and representative of what my cube stands for (it's a retro cube after all). Imp is critical...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

I'm not sure I'm playing New Drana yet. I like the tie in with +1/+1 and the black anthem effect for aggro. But I don't like this better than what I'm running. So it might be a pass for me initially. Certainly a good card though, especially with heavy token support.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I don't think curse is that high. I put Grave Titan, Opposition, and Ophiomancer above it. My main issue is that it's multi-player unfriendly because the player that gets cursed becomes a target. That was unfun. If we did zero multi-player, I think it would be OK as long as you ran a...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

I have the same problem Skrap has. All my black 1BB cards are supporting specific themes. And I like them all in the role I put them in. So for this to make it, it has to replace a 2B card, and so there's a small tradeoff there. I need to think about this.

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

The card is better than you think because of the first strike. Cast on Turn 4, swing turn 5, deal FS damage, buff team, non-FS guys deal damage with +1/+1 counters on T5 not T6. So it's a turn faster actually. Still slower than curse of predation, but that might make it the right power...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

Karoos are super slow and very susceptible to land destruction. Stone rain is a game winning play a lot of times, so adjust your LD package accordingly if you throws those in. My 2 cents. To loosely quote Jason and others on this forum… double up on fetches is a better way to go. :)

    Card/Deck The Simic Combine

Retreading a little on my post above, but I really like the +1/+1 counter theme in this color combination. There's a lot to work with there and it can go in various directions (more aggro if you play it straight or more combo depending on how much you push the synergy aspect of the mechanic)...
