Mystic confluence is the only one I'm 100% certain about. But I suspect they are all at least playable (and probably much better than that) simply because of how valuable flexible cards like this are. It's often not apparent exactly how good until you play them in a game and realize you can...

    Card/Deck Blink

I agree you don't need many support cards for blink to be good (even OP). And that is because most ETB creatures we run are already value plays without ways to double dip. IMO, the best version of the deck is more combo/control. I've cut back a lot on my blink support. Currently running...

Couldn't agree more with that philosophy of design.

I love dread return too much to ever cut it (if I only ran one pure reanimation spell, it would be that one). But consuming vapors has been on the edge for awhile, so a good suggestion thank you. More modal is probably better, I think everyone is right about that after putting more thought...

That's my second favorite confluence. Do you guys think it's worth running over Profane Command?

I'm thinking of running mystic confluence over cryptic as its more splashable and blue has too many 4's anyway. I'm not sure I want both.

Karlov is very tempting. Blue confluence is really good obviously. I am not as in love with the red one because I don't have walkers (so dome burn is not as good in my meta) and my artifact suite is as low powered as it's ever been.

    Card/Deck Blue GRBS?

Yup. It's very environment dependent. Here is midrange forest, this card is nothing but feel-bad-ville. In more aggro oriented cubes, it's probably pedestrian.

Meren is very interesting. I'm preordering that for sure.

    Card/Deck Blue GRBS?

Onderzeeboot's list is spot on. I forgot about Stasis. That's a good call. Capsize is a bit slow now in most cubes, but when it's good it's broken (so I can see in the list). Tinker is the dependent on what kind of targets you run, but I have yet to make fair tinker a thing. It's either...

    Card/Deck Blue GRBS?

I'd add Bribery to the list. At least treachery can be disenchanted and they can only steal what you play. The feel bad potential on Bribery is exceedingly high and it feels like you can't play around it unless you just run an aggro deck. My group hates this card more than any other card I've...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Not to muddy the waters even more, but another 4 drop guys should really be trying out is Outpost Siege. I like it better than Purphoros, which sounds like blasphemy but seriously that card is the stone cold nuts. Run it in any Rx sacrifice style deck and it's just absurd (pair it with...

    General Fight Club

For those who do custom cards, here's one I would play in a second. Draining Whelk 2.0 4UU Flying When ~ ETB, counter target spell. Put X +1/+1 counters on ~. Evoke: UU1 0/0

    General Fight Club

I just want to mention that I think Cancel is more playable than we give it credit for. It's like shock. Shock is very much a playable cube card if you were to look at it in a vacuum (i.e. not comparing it to other options). We don't play it because there are literally dozens of cards which...

Ruinator needs support but in the dredge/self-mill deck, he's very good. And obviously as a pod target. I like the card a lot.

In cube though, there are very often super value dudes that you really really want to reuse. I see this as a midrange/control card. Perfect in rock/pod decks or anything with ETB creatures. Imagine getting a second use out of Eternal Witness, Shriekmaw, etc. And the cost is playing an ETB...

    General Archetype Support

I love your posts Grillo. To dovetail off your last comment... someone posted (different thread different forum) that taking care of aggro and control should be the focus of cube design because midrange will work itself out. That always struck me as very true since much of what goes in...

I haven't tested it yet, but I expect Mortuary Mire to be awesome. One time free Volrath's can't possibly be bad (even on an ETB tapped land). I'd run that one in your list Jason (I apologize if you already considered it and I missed the discussion).

    Card/Deck Flagstones of Trokair

Funny you should mention specifically nighthawk in a pod deck, because I've actually done that. Which brings me too... How far do you push archetypes and specific decks is not an easy question to answer. In a fully optimized pod deck, you would have better things to run than nighthawk which...

    Card/Deck Flagstones of Trokair

I really like this message and have been slowly migrating in that direction as well. I went pretty far down the "guild theme" design route and it certainly is a way to do it, but I'm no longer convinced it makes the most versatile environment. My modular cube experiment almost forced me down...
