Say what you will about the reasons people did or did not vote for the Tangerine Elect, but I find this exit poll chart to be pretty telling:

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

A great point. There is a format for almost every card. In my case, it's exactly how James put it. It's like a welder card in terms of narrowness, not a welder support card. My particular format.doesn't need the one more incentive card, it needs the support cards. And that means that Ravager...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

The problem is that in cube, that worst case.... is really bad. It only pumps artifact creatures, which narrows that ability significantly, and a 1/1 for 2 is not good. My comparison to Epochrasite and Perilous Myr stand, and both of those are much more generically useful in a cube setting.

    General Minimum Deck Size

Just let people do whatever they want. Their is no real reason to change any rules, if people want 43 card decks, so be it. Honestly, it's one if the more important skill development paths a MTG player gets to take. It's not like their deck will fail to operate, but it will run a little...

Card/Deck GREEN: Land Attack / Lands Matter

Tbh, white seems better as a second color only for the last two cards: very good generic control pieces. The RG version has to lean on red more for those tools, which lowers the ceiling a little, but I think it plays the to the land theme a lot more solidly. The white land searchers are...

General Gold aggro and rethinking colour roles

Super interesting thread! I like it :). Its interesting that I've consistently stuck to my guns when it comes to keeping each of the five color sections the same size, but I've been fairly lackadaisical regarding my multicolor balance. I do think that this is a good place and opportunity to...

Card/Deck Start your Engines: A Temur Card Advantage Deck

Recently added this grindy little combo-engine to help support this archetype more: goblin trenches Crucible of worlds I'm well aware that Trenches can run just fine on it's own, and I'll def be keeping an eye on it for unfun-generation-potential. Crucible is an obvious inclusion for this...

Card/Deck GREEN: Land Attack / Lands Matter

Hello and welcome! I have a near and dear spot in my heart for lands-matter based in green. So much so I made a thread about it and dove into 6 pages of brainstorming and designing (and a little drama) :). The basic concept is a deck that sets up and wins with a value engine/repeated incremental...

    General CBS

Honest question here: what are alla y'alls drafters' rankings for guilds? Do you design your "color wheel", or whatever, to your peeference, or the aggregate of your drafters? Basically I'm saying that from my perspective it should be the aggregate. What if every other drafter of venny's cube...

Now correct me if I'm wrong here.... but doesn't every color wheel give you all ten guilds? There was acruelly a follow up Question Mark about this. WotC's color wheel doesn't support enemy colors intrinsically less, they just have fewer cards focused on those guilds at the moment. Basically...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I think Crystalline Crawler is great. I'll probably be swapping out thought-knot seer for it, tbh. The duality of it being both a mana dork and a growing threat is neato. Think it even works well in control because it can come down as a reasonable blocker/threat, and still leave up its mana for...

General Making control decks more interesting

Some environments naturally have "dumb" big bombs, and the gifts pile would probably be more suited to those environments. In my cube, for instance, you could search up (at zero additional cube space): sphinx of uthuun Unburial rites Or angel of despair Unburial rites It's like a strictly fair...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Basically exactly what Onderzeeboot said. Power level also plays a role of course, wherein I have deep analysis as one of my 4cc draw spells. Speaking of toned down power level draw spells, I recently saw this card somewhere, and it seems perfect for my environment: strategic planning

I like Fortune's favor a lot too, but I think epiphany has a couple of legs up on it, to be honest. For the same cost you see the same number of cards, with a much higher ceiling available. And what Ossa said about the easier decision for the opponent rings true to me too. You know your deck, so...

General Making control decks more interesting

I personally don't see anything wrong with that. Here is where Gifts really shines because you can devote 2 slots for something like Unburial Rites Sphinx of the final word Maybe a little less "combo", but also takes less space. Anyways, gifts is obviously a way to make decks more interesting...

Card/Deck Start your Engines: A Temur Card Advantage Deck

Molten vortex definitely isn't the best card out there, but it sure is powerful in the right support structure. Vortex could be replaced in the above scenario with basically any repeatable dicard outlet where you also want Loam, say, Daretti or Noose Constrictor. Barrens will still generally be...

    Sets Commander 2016 Spoilers

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is fairly ridiculous? The absolute worst case is cycling for {1}{G}. If the opponent blocks with 3 creatures? 2 mana vigilance to team + draw 4? Thats... crazy! Now, they do get their entire team untapped for blocking, but it still seems like ridicloud value...

Card/Deck Start your Engines: A Temur Card Advantage Deck

life from the loam Molten vortex I like Ash Barrens a lot. It does wonders for this engine, as it can quickly reverse two problems this engine runs into: 1) not enough lands to both recur back and forth and develop mana with 2) too few red sources Ash Barrens solves both of these issues by...

Epiphany at the drownyard So my most recent pet brew for standard is a Mono U splash B combo-control deck that uses Rise from the Tides as a wincon, and this card... is better than I expected. By quite a bit. Firstly, didn't remember that its X + 1, and then the bigger X's really start...
